Warnakula Patabandige Rodney Priyantha Perera,[1] popularly Rodney Warnakula, (as රොඩ්නි වර්ණකුල in Sinhala) is an actor in Sri Lankan cinema. One of most popular comedians in Sri Lanka, Warnakula is also one of the senior most actors and influential dubbing actors in the industry today. A singer, he is also a dramatic actor in cinema, television and theatre.[2]
Family and Early career
Warnakula was born on 24 April 1961 in Ja-Ela, the son of Aloy Warnakula, who was also an actor at Tower Hall Theatre and Annie Jayakodi, who was a housewife. Due to his father is a renowned stage drama actor in early days, his intentions was also towards the art and drama, who took little Rodney for his drama practices. His first impression in theatre work came through Lucien Bulathsinhala’s stage drama Tharavo Igilethi (1981) back in 1981. Warnakula has married to Hirani Warnakula, where they have two daughters and a son.[3]
Theatre work
Started from Tharawo, Warnakula became one of leading stage drama actors in Sri Lanka, who have acted more than 50 stage dramas particularly as a comedy actor. On an interview, Warnakula said that, he love very much to stage dramas and his characters of "Nariya" in the play Naribana and "Chun Chan" in the stage drama Tharawo Igilethi.[3] His most popular stage dramas include Saranga Nawen Awith, Naribana, Vishva Sundari, Madura Jawanika,[4] Minisa, Tharawo Igilethi, Rookada Rajje,[5] Sudu Redi Horu.[6]
Television acting
Warnakula's most popular television acting came through Bodima,[7] Ethuma, Methuma and Nonavaruni Mahathwaruni.[3][8] He is currently a major television comedian though many of his counterparts. Some of his teledramas are Naana Kamare,[9] Kathura, Raja Kaduwa, Satakapata, On Ataka Nataka.[10]
Himself along with another actor Rodney Fraser, presented and performed a comedy program Two Rodneys, which was telecasted on Sirasa TV.[11]
Filmography
Rodney Warnakula's film career also stands as a comedian. He acted more than 40 films up to 2016.[12] Some of his most famous films are Sikuru Hathe, Supiri Andare, and My Name Is Bandu. His most critically acclaimed acting came through comedy horror film sequels Bahubuthayo and Gindari, where he portrayed as a journalist Bunty.[13]

Warnakula is a highly talented singer. He is the leading singer for many stage dramas, sung in every stage drama he took part in. He already cut a CD and an audiocassette with the name Ha.. Ha… Landé. It contains only songs from stage dramas he acted.[15]
