Robby Waddell

Robert (Robby) Christopher Waddell (born July 7, 1971) is an American Pentecostal biblical scholar,^[1] pastor, and activist.

Dr. Robby Waddell (Ph.D., University of Sheffield) serves as Professor of New Testament and Early Christian Literature and Director of the Center for Faith and Higher Learning at Southeastern University (Lakeland, FL).^[2] He is the author and editor of multiple books and academic articles on the New Testament. He is the co-editor with Peter Althouse of Pneuma: The Journal of the Society for Pentecostal Studies.^[3] He serves on the editorial board of Journal of Biblical and Pneumatological Research. His Ph.D. dissertation, completed under the supervision of Professor Loveday Alexander and Professor John Christopher Thomas, was revised and published in the Journal of Pentecostal Theology Supplement Series, titled The Spirit of the Book of Revelation. This monograph was nominated for the Pneuma Book of the Year Award in 2008. Waddell has also edited two volumes, one with Peter Althouse, Perspectives on Pentecostal Eschatologies: World without End (2010). This volume is interdisciplinary and incorporates the perspectives of biblical studies, history, ecumenism and theology as it explores the landscape of Pentecostal and Charismatic articulations of eschatology. The second co-edited volume (with Steven Fettke) is Calling and the Academy: The Testimonies of Pentecostals in Scholarship (2012). This book provides a historical record of the call to scholarship and personal testimonies of leading Pentecostal scholars in order to inspire young, budding Pentecostal scholars and show the link between Pentecostal scholarship and the Christian church.

In addition to his work at the university, Waddell is on the Board of Directors and serves as the Corresponding Secretary for PEACE^[4] (the Polk Ecumenical Action Council for Empowerment). He is an active member of the Society of Biblical Literature, the Society for Pentecostal Studies, and Pentecostals and Charismatics for Peace and Justice. He also serves as an elder and lead pastor at Oasis Community Church^[5] in Lakeland, FL.
