Richview Collegiate Institute (Richview CI, RCI or Richview) is a secondary school in Etobicoke, in the west end of Toronto, Ontario. It is in the Etobicoke Board of Education which in turn became the part of the Toronto District School Board in 1998. RCI has been an integral part of the Etobicoke community since 1958.

History

The school was founded in 1958. Richview’s Latin motto is "Monumentum Aere Perennius" which means "A monument more lasting than bronze". Richview is an English and French Immersion Secondary School with strong community ties, and prepares its diverse student population to be well-rounded future leaders and lifelong learners through extensive academic and co-curricular programs.

As of spring 2012, the total enrollment was 949.[1]

Overview

Extracurricular activities

Richview is well known for its strong athletic programs. Richview's sports teams are called the Saints and the school colours are Scarlet and Gold. School teams compete in archery, badminton, baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cricket, cross country running, rugby, curling, golf, ice hockey, curling, skiing, slo-pitch, soccer, swimming, tennis, track & field, archery and volleyball.

The Richview Ski team is one of the only school teams to have been to the Ontario finals (OFSAA), 18 years in a row. In 2010, the boys level 1 skiers placed 7th in all of Ontario. In 2011, the girls level 1 team placed first in Toronto for slalom, Giant slalom, and combined. The boys level 1's placed 3rd, however the captain qualified on his own for OFSAA. Led by Mr. A. Nunes, the ski team is one of the school's most successful teams.

The Richview baseball program is well known due to the emergence of Major League Baseball player, Joey Votto. The Baseball team had an excellent season in 2011, winning the West division title. During the 2008 season, the baseball team won the Toronto City Championship, the first in school history. The Richview baseball team also won the City of Toronto championship in 2010, 2011, and 2013. The team was the TDSB representative at the OFSAA Baseball Championships in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014.

Richview won the 1985 OFSAA Boys Track and Field Championship in Etobicoke, Ontario.

Students may also participate in: Intermediate, or Senior Band, Stage Band, Junior Orchestra/Symphony, Senior Strings, Choir, Charity Week Activities, Fashion Show, Volleyball, Tennis, Swimming, Soccer, Cross Country, Track & Field, Athletic Council, Parent Council as well as various activities in the dramatic arts such as short plays, the SEARS Drama Festival Production and the Improv Team.

Richview Environment Club

Richview Environment Club had worked hard for the last three year to make Richview Eco-friendly. The Environment Club has work endlessly of Richview's inner courtyard which was completely overgrown and they transformed it into, an amazing thriving eco-system, where Richview Students can sit and enjoy the outside, flowers, trees and birds. The Environment Club also has funded other groups in the school, in 2009-2010 they raised $462.00 and Half went to help purchase plants to help decorate the outside of the school and the other half went to help purchase a tree that was dedicated to a Richview teacher that died that year. The Richview Environment Club also in 2009-2010 participated in a park clean up and help teach children working with St.George golf course to teach grades 4 to 6 about eco-systems and the importance of environmental sustainability. Finally the Richview Environment club in the years of 2008-2009 they achieved Bronze Eco-School Status, and in 2009-2010 had achieved Silver Eco-School Status. This year they are hoping to achieve Gold Eco-School status. Achieving a higher status, will allow the school to get funding for things that will make Richview Eco-Friendly.

Student Newspaper

The Richview Voice was launched as an online newspaper in 2016. Former newspapers have been the Richview Herald launched in 2011, the Richview Epiphany launched in the 2008-2009 school year (this was the year of the relaunch), and the R C Eye (a play on the school's initials, RCI), from the late 1960s.
