Red Planet Hotels is a privately owned regional hotel company founded in 2010 that focuses on Asia’s expanding value hotel sector. The company owns and operates 25 hotels in Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, and Thailand with a total of 3,970 rooms.

History

Red Planet opened its first hotel in Hat Yai, Thailand in December 2011.[1] In July 2015, Red Planet announced that it had ended its partnership with Tune Hotels and rebranded all of its properties in the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, and Japan.[2]

In September 2016, Reuters reported Red Planet received a USD 70 million investment from Goldman Sachs to facilitate Red Planet’s planned regional expansion to open 10 additional hotels by September 2018.[3]

Since 2010, Red Planet has raised USD 240 million in funding from investors. The company said it planned to raise one final round of capital before an IPO.

Rooms

Rooms have consistent features across properties and are located close to public transportation hubs. All rooms have power showers and are supplied with towels and toiletries. The company's hotels have twin, double, deluxe double, and disabled accessible rooms.

Technology Platform

Red Planet has a booking portal app and affiliate programme called Referred, which offers cash commissions for members. Their system based on yield management allows maximizing revenue ; meaning booking needs to be paid in advance. The app's In-Stay Mode functions as a room-to-room and front desk telephone line, via the app, when in the hotel.[4] Red Planet partners with Lonely Planet to provide local destination content for its hotel guests.

Listed Subsidiaries

In June 2014, Red Planet's Indonesian subsidiary listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange.[5] Red Planet Japan is listed on the JASDAQ Securities Exchange.[6]
