Raja Al Gurg is a businesswoman who lives in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. She is the Managing Director of the Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group and a Board Member of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry. ArabianBusiness.com listed Al Gurg as the fifth most powerful Arab woman in 2012[1] and she was selected as the Figure of the Month by the Al Waref Institute for Humanitarian Studies in September 2009.[2] During the Third Middle East Women Achievement Awards in 2011, Raja Al Gurg was awarded the 2011 Woman of the Year Award.[3]
History
Raja Al Gurg graduated from Kuwait University in 1977 with a degree in English Literature and served as headmistress of Zabeel Secondary School for Girls from 1978 to 1989.[4] In 1989 Al Gurg joined the Board of Directors of the Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group and is currently the Group's Managing Director.
In September 2003, Al Gurg, along with Sheikha Lubna Al-Qasimi, led a delegation of Dubai businesswomen to the US - Arab Economic Forum.[5]
Other positions
Apart from her position with the Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group, Al Gurg also holds a number of positions with other companies and organisations. She is the President of the Dubai Business Women's Council and a Board Member of the Dubai Women Association. She is a member of the Dubai Government's Economic Council, Federation of the UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry Business Women Committee, Arab International Women's Forum, and of the National Advisory Council for Zayed University's College of Business Sciences. Al Gurg serves as the President of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry Business Women Committee and is a Trustee of Tanmia.[4] Al Gurg also serves as the Deputy Chairperson of the Dubai Medical Authority.[6]
