Qingdao Red Lions Football Club [1] is a football club and academy from Qingdao in Shandong province, China. The club has its home base in the Chengyang district of the city.
The first team is coached by Jan Poortvliet, former manager of Southampton FC and 1978 World Cup finalist with the Netherlands as a player. Notable players include David Löfquist,[2] Kwame Quansah and Milan Perić.
Qingdao Red Lions was established in early 2016 by its founding members Bruno Marveggio, Rob van Eck and Piet van der Pol. The club aims to contribute to the development of Chinese football, both on youth level as in competitive league football.
Club badge and colours
The club badge consists of a shield containing a lion's head—a symbol for strength—and Wuyue Feng (May Wind), the iconic monument on Qingdao's May Fourth Square.
The 2016 home and away kit for Qingdao Red Lions are designed and manufactured by Guangzhou based sports clothing company UCANSport.
Results
- 2016 Qingdao City Super League: season starts on saturday May 21 and finishes saturday August 20. The 2016 QCS League consists of 6 teams, each playing 10 games.
- 2016 China Amateur Football League Finals: Red Lion qualified through Qingdao City Super League. Southeast Regional final take place october 1–7 in Shanghai. Top four of the regional final qualifies for the national finals, which take place november 7–13 in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu province.
- 2016 Qingdao City Cup Tournament: Qingdao Red Lions did not participate.
