Punjab Reorganisation Act, 1966
The Punjab Reorganisation Act was passed by the Indian Parliament on 18th September 1966. It divided Punjab and created a new state of Haryana and transferred territory to Himachal Pradesh, then a Union territory, and the city of Chandigarh became a Union territory and served as the capital of both the residual Punjab and Haryana.[1][2][3]
