The Public News is a fortnightly arts & entertainment newspaper originally launched in 2006 as a North Metro Houston newspaper that focuses on the news, arts, entertainment, film, music, and events that affect and interest the 1.5 million plus residents of Spring, The Woodlands, Klein, Atascocita, Tomball, Conroe and Humble Texas and the surrounding areas.

After a seven-year hiatus, the Public News re-branded itself for a 2014 relaunch in the Montgomery County, Texas, North and Northwest Harris County, Texas, the inner loop of Houston, Texas and Huntsville, Texas markets. In November 2014, Public News ceased printing on newsprint and began to distribute its flagship newspaper as a digital download in .pdf and as a flipbook.

On April 3, 2015 Public News was extended an invitation to join the Association of Alternative Newsmedia. Public News declined the invitation.

Originally published on a weekly schedule, the Public News decided to move to a fortnightly publishing schedule in May 2015.

In July 2015 Public News inked an agreement, with digital content distributor PressReader, that would make the Public News available to over 30 million PressReader app users and 256 million B2B users.

The Public News is not to be confused with another paper by the same name that folded in 1998.
