This is a new cruise ship of the P&O Cruises fleet. She will be built by Meyer Werft at its shipyard in Papenberg, Germany.[2]
At 180,000 GT, the new ship will become the largest ship in service with P&O Cruises and is likely to become the new flagship of the fleet, taking the honour from Britannia. She is due to enter service in 2020 with passengers able to book cruises on her from late 2018.
Naming and construction
The ship was originally announced on 6 September 2016. The name will be decided by passengers of P&O Cruises as announced on their office twitter feed.[3][4]
Facilities
On board, this new ship it will feature 17 places to eat to suit all appetites and occasions, 7 specialty restaurants, 12 places to enjoy a drink and take in sea views, 16 whirlpools and 4 swimming pools (3 outside and 1 inside). It will also feature 13 entertainment venues which will include a theater, venues for adults only and 3 pop-up entertainment spaces.
The Dome
A new major entertainment hub called The Dome will be one of the start attractions on the ship. It will feature a glass roof and the indoor pool that has a retractable stage, water features and whirlpools. During the day the space will be used for entertainment, relaxation and informal dining. At night it is expected that it will form one of the main 4 entertainment spaces with aerial performances, roof projections and shows.
Lanai Deck
P&O Cruises aim to bring the outside in with a half mile long Lanai Deck (Covered Promenade Deck). It will have Alfresco Dining and intimate hideaways.[5]
The Atrium
It is expected the like on Britannia the focal point will be the Atrium. It is likely to include triple-deck glass windows, a grand staircase, gallery and overhead walkways.
