Princess Nadezhda Tereshchenko also known as Princess Nadezhda Mouravieff-Apostol and Nadezhda Mouravieff-Apostol-Korobyine (Russian: Надéжда Терéщенко; Ukrainian: Надíя Терéщенко) was the daughter of Theodore Artemievich Tereshchenko and Nadezhda Vladimirovna Khlopoff from ancient and noble Khlopoff family.
Biography
On January 21, 1909 Nadezhda Tereshchenko married Vladimir Vladimirovich Mouravieff-Apostol-Korobyine. The wedding ceremony took place in a huge estate Chervonoe. The Mouravieff-Apostol-Korobyine family built in Cannes, California hills, a luxury villa "Springland". Nadezhda got this house as a wedding gift from her mother Nadezhda Vladimirovna Khlopoff. Between 1910 and 1914, her sons Vadim, Andrew and Alex were born. The Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich of Russia, brother of Nicholas II of Russia, lived in nearby Cannes and was the godfather of Andrew.[1] Before the events of 1917, the family managed to take in to England most of their fortune, and most importantly - beautiful emeralds, reputedly belonging to Marie Antoinette. Princess Nadezhda sold her emeralds to her close friend, Margaret Greville, so that she presented them as a gift to the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. In April 1928, the family purchased Bursinel, in the Swiss canton of Vaud, a beautiful house and called it "Springland II". The Tereshchenko-Mouravieff-Apostol family had very close friends among high political personalities and art cirlces. Some of the family's close friends were President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Winston Churchill, prominent Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dalí etc.
First golf course in Ukraine
It has been stated to build the first golf course in Ukraine in Leontievka. In order to do this, was listed a specialist from Scotland, was brought a special grass, replaced a topsoil. And then, finally, the field was ready. Princess Mouravieff-Apostol invited an Ambassador of England from Saint-Petersburg to the ceremonial opening, The Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich of Russia was also there. The Grand duke was a fan of golf and he never missed an opportunity to support this important, on his opinion - for the whole Russian Empire, initiative. However, it was not a long golf playing period in Zhytomyr. When Bolsheviks came, they plowed the field and grew potatoes.[2]
World War I and Russian Revolution
The whole war, Vladimir was a representative of the Russian Red Cross in London.
Personal life
Nadezhda was married to Vladimir Mouravieff-Apostol-Korobyine. Her son Prince Andrew Mouravieff-Apostol then married to Ellen Rothschild[3] that he met in Brazil, from Rothschild family.
Charity activities
To mark Nadezhda and Vladimir wedding occasion, the Tereshchenko family donated money for building Russian Orthodox churches in Cannes and in Beaulieu-sur-Mer. Together with the Grand Duchess Elena Vladimirovna of Russia (daughter of Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich of Russia and Duchess Marie of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, and wife of Prince Nicholas of Greece and Denmark), Vladimir organized a Franco-Russian society, that was helping Russian immigrants. They successfully guided the activities of Franco-Russian society of the French Riviera. This society also organized various festivals, performances and charity fairs.
