Prince Mak

Henry Prince Mak (born May 24, 1990), better known by his stage name, Prince Mak, is an Australian-born Korean pop star. He debuted in 2014 with the K-Pop boy group, JJCC. After much speculation, he officially announced in September 2016 that while he was still a part of JJCC he would be pursuing an acting career in China.[1]

Early life

Henry was born in Sydney, Australia. His father is a builder and his mother works in a Chinese restaurant. He has one sister. He attended Casula Primary School and Moorebank High School and then Macquarie Fields High School for his senior years.[2] He learned piano as a child, then played bass in a band. He later became interested in hip-hop and began popping and locking.[3] He studied music at University of New South Wales before leaving to pursue a career in the entertainment industry in China. Prince Mak is fluent in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and speaks basic Korean.[4]

Career

Pre-debut

Prince Mak was a dance teacher at Crossover studio in Sydney and also studied acting at the Actors College of Theatre and Television.[5] While a dance teacher he was approached by Korean entertainment company, JYP. However he was not interested and declined the offer.[6]

In 2012, Prince Mak decided to move to China to break into the entertainment industry. He entered and won a talent competition in Beijing run by action movie star Jackie Chan. Chan hand-picked Prince Mak to be a member of his K-Pop boy group, JJCC.[7]

JJCC

Prince Mak moved to Korea in February 2014 and debuted with his fellow bandmates as part of JJCC less than a month later. However he did not feature in their debut music video, "At First" due to an injury.[8] When JJCC first formed he described their days to have "started at 6am with a 13km run, dance practise, vocal training, more dancing and I also learned Korean."[9] He was a co-host along with his bandmate, Eddy, for the weekday music show Pops in Seoul. He also hosted a radio show on SBS PopAsia in 2015.[10] After much speculation, he officially announced in September 2016 that while he was still a part of JJCC he would be pursuing an acting career in China.[11]

Current

Prince Mak is now based in Beijing. Assisted by Jackie Chan he is working hard to pursue an acting career in China. He is also learning some martial arts. Despite not being active in Korea anymore Prince Mak travels to Korea once a month to visit his fellow bandmates.[12]

Influences

Growing up, Prince Mak was actually not interested in K-Pop. His biggest influence is Michael Jackson.[13]
