History

The golf resort was built by Polaris World. Building started in 2002 and completed in 2005.

Golf

The golf course itself is 18-hole, 5,350 metre & par 68 and forms part of the Polaris World Nicklaus Golf Trail – currently four courses up and running, increasing soon to a total of 8 courses within a radius of 25 kilometres. A Jack Nicklaus- designed golf course.

Hotel

The 113 bedroom, 5-star Intercontinental Hotel is located within the resort, together with several bars, restaurants, shops, a large supermarket, a bank, two tennis courts and 22 communal swimming pools of various sizes. The town centre, located in the middle of the resort near the hotel is a hub of activity, consisting of a hairdressing salon, an Irish bar, a night club, a small ice-cream shop, an Italian restaurant, a Tapas bar and a few other features. [1] Hotel closed down in 2012 and later acquired by a Chilean group Pedro García Meroño and Facundo Armero, trading as Phoenix in 2016.

Promotional Advertising

La Torre Golf Resort was featured in two major British television campaigns, with commercials featuring the president of Polaris World, Jose Luis Hernandez and, before that, Jack Nicklaus, with the now-famous line ‘Maybe tomorrow, Jack’.

Davis Cup

In September 2009, the resort played host to the Davis Cup semi-final between Spain and Israel, with crowds of up to 12,000 packing the temporary stadium erected specially for the three-day tennis event.[2]

Other

American film director/actor/writer/comedian and sometime jazz musician Woody Allen played clarinet with his jazz band at the resort’s hotel on New Year’s Eve 2008, whilst X-Factor finalist Ruth Lorenzo featured regularly there. 70’s soul/funk band and Grammy award winners Kool & the Gang (‘Celebration’, ‘Ladies Night’) and Argentinian singer Andrés Calamaro have also appeared at the resort, which hosts live music most weekends.
