Planbox is an Agile project management tool that allows members of multiple business functions to plan, collaborate and deliver projects. It brings software development and other functions of an organization into the agile life cycle. Planbox is a hosted web application that is available to the public.
Originally created for Bolidea, a Montreal-based technology incubator, it was created to serve as the company’s Product portfolio management platform.
Planbox's headquarters are located in Dorval, Quebec. The company has other offices in Montreal, Quebec, and in San Jose, California.
History
Planbox was founded September 1, 2009, in Montreal, Canada and released its open beta version in June of the 2010.[1] Planbox’s project management was done through Planbox itself[2] and through Agile methods, as suggested by the Agile Manifesto. Planbox was featured in NextMontreal.[3]
On April 18, 2012, Planbox was selected as one of the winners (out of 315 applications) of the Emerging Entrepreneurs Contest,[4] hosted by Sid Lee’s new international business conference C2-MTL 2012. The first edition of this “collaborative and immersive” conference, happening in Montreal, is to gather business professionals across industries to “find creative answers to commercial questions”. Sponsored by the Claudine and Stephen Bronfman Foundation, the contest’s objective was to give a chance to Quebec startups to “network, discuss and mingle with some of the most creative people in business”.
On June 14, 2012, the C100 selected Planbox as one of Canada’s most promising startups to participate in the 48 Hours in the Valley program.[5] The C100[6] is a non-profit, member-driven organization that supports Canadian technology entrepreneurship through mentorship, partnership and investment.
Features
Planbox offers common to-do lists, drag and drop prioritization, time tracking, file sharing, reporting, a messaging platform, feedback loop and bug tracking.[7]
It introduces four levels of project management: Initiatives, Projects, Items (sometimes referred to as stories) and tasks. Planbox also handles Impediment Management, and Impediment Removal Teams (IRT), a term coined by Joe Little, one of Scrum's fathers.[8]
Planbox is a software as a service platform available in English. It was originally meant for Agile users but adapts to a wide variety of uses, such as creative agencies, start-ups, web design, and others.[9]
Planbox supports the Scrum software development method: Release Management, Iterations, Stories, BackLog, Prioritization, Scrum Roles, Sprints, Estimated Hours and Story Points.
