Peteru is a panchayat in Repalle Mandal, Guntur district, in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is located 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) north of Repalle. The village is located 45 kilometres (28 mi) north of Tenali, 60 kilometres (37 mi) west of Guntur, and 70 kilometres (43 mi) away from Vijayawada. Highway NH214A passes by this village. Velama Dora plays major role in the development and improvement of the village.
History
The name Repalle is actually formed from two words revu (river or bank of river) and palle (village). In the old days people used to call it as revupalle and as the time goes on it has become Repalle.
Suryadevara Nayakas ruled in Repalle - Rachuru Kingdom (Pulivavaru Seema) around 1400 CE to 1500 CE. They belonged to Telugu cholas lineage. The clan constructed Rachuru and Peteru Forts. Suryadevara nayaka were commanders in the army of Viayanagara Kings in 14th and 15th centuries. The Suryadevara nayakas are seem in the inscriptions from 1500 CE onwords. The played a prominent role in the battles of Sri Krishnadevaraya with Gajapathi Kings of Kalinga. Prominent Suryadevara nayaks were Timma, Yerra and Musalaya. The Suryadevara fortunes declined after the battle of Tallikota. Rachuru fort was given to a Zamindar Manikyarao by Golkonda ruler Qutb Shah in 1600 CE.
During the British imperial rule, Repalle Taluk in Machilipatnam district, which was later divided into Krishna, and Godavari districts. In 1904 Krishna District was again separated into Krishna and Guntur Districts. Repalle Taluk was divided into Repalle and Tenali Taluks on 1 July 1909.
Demographics
As of 2011 India census Peteru Village has a population of around 8464 of which Males are 4207 and Females are 4257 with a total Households of 2230.
Economy
Majority of population in Peteru village depend on agriculture and hand loom Weaving for their livelihood. The most important factor is agriculture in this region. The region has dry lands and wet lands. Paddy and black gram are cultivated on wet lands and corn is grown on the dry lands. As the Krishna west canal does not provide irrigation for rabi season, the fields are left empty during the summer. Aquaculture, mostly prawns, meant for the export are cultivated along the banks of Krishna river. Dairy, Poultry followed, mainly to supplement the agricultural income.
Peteru, Isukapalli are some of the main handloom weaving centres in Repalle. Isukapalli Handloom Weavers Co-operative Society Ltd is producing quality Bed Sheets,Towels, Lungies,Modern Handkerchiefs. Peteru is home to handlooms and the cloth woven here is sold in all parts of the state.
Industrial VANPIC Ports Private Limited is developing (Vadarevu and Nizampatnam Port & Industrial Corrider) a world class, State of - the art Port - Based Industrial Corridor comprising two ports, Shipyard, Multi Product Industrial Parks, Special Economic Zones (SEZ), Power Plants and Airport between Nizampatnam - Kothapatnam in an area of 25000 acres.
Transportation
The main mode of public transportation is by bus. The nearest Railway station is located in Repalle. There are auto rickshaws and rickshaws to commute to and from Repalle.
Road
The Repalle town is well connected to the coastal national highway NH-214 A (Narsapur - Ongole road line) and 68 km from NH 5 (Connecting Kolkota - Chennai). It has a bus depot. Bus services are available for all villages around Repalle and Tenali, Ponnur, Bapatla, Chirala, Guntur, Vijayawada, Hyderabad. After penumudi krishna river barrage is complete, Repalle is connected to Krishna district through bus services.
Rail
Repalle is the terminus for the Tenali - Repalle line of Guntur division. It has regular passenger train services to Tenali, Guntur and Hyderabad.The railway station and bus stand are next to each other.
Education
S.P.B.M.Z.P.(Sri.Parchuri Balaramaiah Zilla Parishad) High School is located in Peteru. The Zilla Parishad School administration and the teaching faculty continue to work hard to achieve outstanding results. The School has produced Excellent results in the past years and continues to do the same in the coming years. All students will be thankful to G. Prabhu kumar, who brought revolution in the z.p.h school and it became root cause of development of the school.
The Literacy Percentage has grown high rapidly in the past few years and high importance is given to Education and No thanks to people like Veeranki Veera Vasantha Rao (founder of Kranthi Public School).
