Pearl Harbor Elementary School is a public, coeducational grade school of the Hawai'i State Department of Education that serves around 637 students in grades K-6. The ethnicity is 56% Asian and 25% White.[1] It is located on Moanalua Ridge, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA. Pearl Harbor is within the Radford Complex in the Central Oahu District of Hawaii State Department of Education.
History
Pearl Harbor was established in 1956. The school was surrounded by military housing in the late 1950s. As time went on enrollments decreased due to the opening of other schools around the area.
Presidential visit
The school was visited by President George W Bush on 23 October 2003. During the visit Laura Bush read to a second-grade class to promote her reading initiative.[2][3][4]
Funding
In 2003 the Hawaii Senate voted $2,500,000 to plan, design, and construct a library for the school.[5]
Fire prevention week
The Hawaii Federal Fire Department chose this school to launch the 2004 Fire Prevention Week on October 5, 2004.[6]
Notable faculty
Kindergarten teacher Ruth Komatsu was named in January 1997 as one of Hawaii’s Top Teachers.[7]
