Pascal Nyabenda

Pascal Nyabenda (born 12 April 1966) is a Burundian politician who has been President of the National Assembly of Burundi since 2015, as well as President of the National Council for the Defense of Democracy – Forces for the Defense of Democracy (CNDD-FDD), the ruling party, since 2012. Previously he was President of the CNDD-FDD Parliamentary Group[1] and served as Governor of Bubanza Province.

On 31 March 2012, he was elected as the President of the CNDD-FDD,[1] the most influential post in the country behind that of the President of the Republic.

Nyabenda was elected to the National Assembly in the June 2015 parliamentary election as a CNDD-FDD candidate, and he was elected by the deputies as President of the National Assembly on 30 July 2015.[2][3] There was no other candidate for the post, and Nyabenda received 101 votes.[3]
