Organizacion de Narcotraficantes Unidos
The Organizacion de Narcotraficantes Unidos (ONU, also known popularly as La ONU), is a Puerto Rican criminal organization. It is an organization dedicated to drug dealing, unifying various well-known dealers under one umbrella group. The organization is based in Bayamon.
History
The so called Organizacion was formed by Angel Ayala Vazquez, known as "Angelo Millones", according to a 2009 report by federal prosecutor Rosa Emilia Rodriguez. The ONU helped transport shipments from Colombia, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and other Latin American countries to the United States[1]
Around 2004, Ayala Vazquez and other drug dealers decided to form the ONU in order to confuse the local police and other law organizations, to evade conflict between rival gangs as much as possible and to maximize profits from local drug trade among the group's members.[2] The group was named ONU after the United Nations, whose name in Spanish, Organizacion de Naciones Unidas, is commonly abbreviated to "ONU".
According to police records, at some time Ayala Vazquez decided to let a man named Jose Colon run the drug trade at Residencial Virgilio Davila, near Bayamon downtown, and Colon's brother Christopher Colon the residencial Rafael Torrench's trade. In 2009, Ayala Vazquez was arrested by the FBI and Jose Colon was arrested in 2010. By then the gang was involved in distributing heroin, cocaine, marijuana, crack, Xanax and Percocet.[3]
Rompe ONU
Rompe ONU ("ONU Breakers") is a rival organization which is also dedicated to the drug trade in Puerto Rico. Rompe ONU was first organized by several former ONU member traffickers and has been involved in a violent war against ONU members. In 2015, 105 persons linked to Rompe ONU were arrested by the ATF and the Puerto Rico Police.[4]
