The On the Road Again Tour was the fourth headlining concert tour by English-Irish boy band One Direction.[1] It promoted the band's fourth studio album, Four.[2] The tour began on 7 February 2015 in Sydney, Australia and ended on 31 October 2015 in Sheffield, England.[3] The majority of the tour were sold out, bringing in revenue of $208 million from 80 shows total.
During the tour, on 19 March 2015, it was announced that group member Zayn Malik would be taking a hiatus from the tour due to stress. Malik later announced his departure from the group six days later. His last performance with the group was the 18 March show in Hong Kong. The group continued performing on tour and began to release new material as a foursome. As of February 2016, this is the last tour the group have headlined due to their extended hiatus that began earlier in the year.
Background
The tour was announced on the Australian breakfast television program Today. The group will be making their debut performance in some countries on this tour. It was reported on 19 January 2015 that The X Factor 2012 winner Samantha Jade would be headlining the Australian leg alongside McBusted.[4]
On 19 March 2015, Zayn Malik announced his decision to exit the tour, citing "stress" as the reason behind his departure. A representative for the band said in a statement: "Zayn has been signed off with stress and is flying back to the UK to recuperate".[5] Six days later, on 25 March, the band announced Malik's decision that he would permanently exit the group, citing his decision to live a "normal 22-year old life" and that the remaining members would continue on as a four-piece group. In a statement, they said: "We're really sad to see Zayn go, but we totally respect his decision and send him all our love for the future. The past five years have been beyond amazing, we've gone through so much together, so we will always be friends. The four of us will now continue. We're looking forward to recording the new album and seeing all the fans on the next stage of the world tour."[6]

- During the opening performance in Sydney and the performance in Perth on 20 February, the band performed a cover of "Uptown Funk!" by Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars.[8]
- During the performance in Osaka on February 25, the band performed a cover of "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk & Pharrell Williams and "Stockholm Syndrome" was added to the setlist of the tour replacing "Happily".
- During the performance in Cardiff on 6 June, the band performed a cover of "She Makes Me Wanna" by JLS.
- Since the performance in Brussels on 13 June, "18" and "No Control" were added to the setlist of the tour, replacing "One Thing".
- During the performance in Helsinki on 27 June, "Strong" was performed for last time.
- Since the performance in San Diego on 9 July, "Act My Age" was added to the setlist of the tour.
- During the performance in San Diego on 9 July and Santa Clara on 11 July, "Spaces" was performed.
- During the performance in Vancouver on 17 July, the band performed a cover of "Happy Birthday" by Mildred J. Hill and of "Started from the Bottom" by Drake.
- Since the performance in Edmonton on 21 July, "Fireproof" was finnally added to the setlist of the tour, after having being performed in Sydney on 8 February.
- During the performance in Winnipeg on 24 July, the band performed a cover of "Happy Birthday" by Mildred J. Hill and Liam Payne one of "Hero" by Enrique Iglesias.
- During the performance in Indianapolis on 31 July, "Drag Me Down" was performed for the first time and was added to the setlist of the tour replacing "Alive" and "Happy Birthday" by Mildred J. Hill was covered again.
- During the performance in Detroit on 29 August and the performance in Foxborough on 12 September, Liam Payne and Niall Horan, respectively, made a cover of "22" by Taylor Swift, because of the 22nd birthday of both.
- During the performance in Philadelphia on 1 September, the band performed a cover of "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air" by Will Smith.
- During the performances in London on 24 and 25 September, the band performed a cover of "Happy Birthday" by Mildred J. Hill once again.
- During the second Europe's leg the order of the songs was reformed and in the opening performance in London "Infinity" was performed for the first time.
- During the performance in Dublin on 16 October, "Perfect" was performed for the first time and was added to the setlist of the tour replacing "Diana".
- During the performance in Newcastle on 26 October, Niall Horan performed an acoustic version of "Home", song included in the Perfect EP.
