Grand Concert Hall Oktyabrsky is one of concert platforms in the centre of Saint Petersburg.
Concert hall it is used basically for performance of variety actors, rock musicians, and also dancing and ballet collectives.[1]
As the director of a hall since 1988 Emma Lavrinovich works.[2]
History
Till 1961 on a place occupied now "Oktyabrsky", there was a Greek church (1861, architect Roman Kuzmin), entitled the Greek Square and Greek Prospekt. Circumstances of a pulling down of church are described in Joseph Brodsky Ostanovka v pustyne's poem.
The new building has been constructed in 1967 under the project of the group of authors headed Alexander Zhuk. Over the project architects worked Alexander Zhuk, Valentin Kamensky, Jean Verzhbitsky, engineers Galkin, Maksimov. The building silhouette is allocated with strict geometry, the facade decorates a huge stained-glass window. Over a front entrance there is a bronze frieze of work of sculptor Mikhail Anikushin. At steps at an input in a building sculpture "October" sculptor Alexander Matveev (It is cast from bronze after death of the author - in 1968 under the original of 1927) is established.
The hall has been opened by fiftieth anniversary of October revolution, its capacity makes 3727 places (including a balcony 1,043). According to administration, attendance of a concert hall — about one million spectators in a year.
In 2009 repair was necessary for a concert hall. Works will mention all systems of a building, they will be is spent from July till October 2009.[3]
