History
Ōhara Station opened on December 13, 1898 as the terminal station of the Bōsō Railway. On September 1, 1907, the Bōsō Railway was nationalized and became part of the Japanese Government Railways, which was transformed into the Japanese National Railways (JNR) after World War II. The station was connected with Ōtaki, Chiba via the Izumi Kidō jinrikisha railway from December 15, 1912 to August 31, 1927. The Bōsō Railway was extended to Katsuura on June 20, 1913. On April 1, 1930 the Isumi Railway began operations from Ōhara Station.
Freight operations were discontinued from February 1, 1984. The station was absorbed into the JR East network upon the privatization of the Japanese National Railways on April 1, 1987. On March 24, 1988, the Isumi Railway was split apart from the JR East network to be operated by a private company.
