Odd Box Records is a British DIY indiepop record label started in London but now based in Cardiff, Wales, following relocation in 2016. It has been hailed as a "big presence on the indiepop scene."[1]
History
Odd Box was launched in 2009,[2] after the dissolution of earlier imprint Lost Music Records.[3][4] The label has issued a steady and wide-ranging series of albums, EPs and singles since that time including well-received releases by The Wolfhounds,[5][6] Pocketbooks,[7] Sarandon,[8] The Manhattan Love Suicides,[9] Martha,[10] Joanna Gruesome[11] The Blanche Hudson Weekend[12] and The Ethical Debating Society,[13] as well as other groups such as The Millipedes,[14] The Humms,[15] The Wednesday Club,[16] One Happy Island,[17] The Monorals,[18] The Smittens,[19] Ace Bushy Striptease,[20] Pale Man Made,[21] Tyrannosaurus Dead,[22] Wolf Girl[23] and Giant Burger.[24]
The label also operates as an events promoter as well as helping to organise annual festivals, including previously the Odd Box Weekender.[25] As such Odd Box is regarded as a lynchpin of the independent music scene, alongside other long-established DIY labels such as Fortuna Pop![26]
