North Lincoln High School is a public school in Lincolnton, North Carolina, United States. North Lincoln was completed in 2003, and the total student population is approximately 1,050. The school mascot is the Knight, and the school colors (as originally adopted) are Royal Blue, Silver, and Black, with white as an accent color. The principal is Mitch Sherrill. Assistant principals are Zachary Beam and Marshall Stewart.
History
North Lincoln was completed in 2003 and became the fourth high school in the Lincoln County school district. The students for the new school came from East Lincoln High School and Lincolnton High School.[1]
Athletics
North Lincoln has a variety of athletic teams. The North Lincoln Men's Golf Team won back to back state 2A championships in 2009 and 2010 and also State Runner up in 2011, 2012, and 2013. The team has earned regional championships in 2009 and 2010, and regional runner up in 2004, 2005, 2011, and 2012. The golf team has the following conference championships. 2004, 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. The women's basketball team placed first in the Southern Piedmont 1A/2A conference tournament in February (2009). The North Lincoln Cross Country Teams have both risen to the top. The girls team has won 4 straight Conference Championships(2009,10,11), 4 straight regional championships (2009,10,11,12) and have placed in the top three in the state championship four straight years. The boys have won three straight conference titles, two straight regional titles, and won two state championship in 2011 and 2012. North Lincoln's Swim Team celebrated a State Championship in 2014 when senior McKenzie Weed came in 1st place in the Women's 50 yard freestyle. She was the first swimmer in North Lincoln history to win a State Championship.
Marching band
The North Lincoln Band of Knights has received many accolades including making finals at the Western Carolina University Tournament of Champions nine years in a row from 2003 to 2011. In 2009, at the Tournament of Champions, they received the Role of Honor which is awarded to the highest scoring band from the state of North Carolina. Also in 2009, the North Lincoln Band of Knights participated in the Bands of America Grand National Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana securing a top-50 finish. They have also won many grand championships at various high schools in North and South Carolina. The band has also represented the state of North Carolina on the national stage twice, at the dedication of the National WW2 Memorial in 2005 and the National Memorial Day Parade in 2013, both in Washington D.C.
North Lincoln's first band director, Neil Underwood, retired after the 2014/2015 school year. The band is currently under the direction of Kevin Still.
