Noa Dar Dance Group
The Noa Dar Dance Group is an Israeli dance troupe.
Noa Dar, Choreographer and Artistic Director, was born in Kibbutz Degania, Israel. At 18, she was invited to join the Batsheva Ensemble. At 22, she received a grant from Merce Cunningham, and moved to New York to dance with the choreographers Zvi Gotheiner, Jeanette Stoner, and Neta Puvelmacher.
In 1987, Dar was a founding member of The Tamar Dance Company, where she began to choreograph. Supported by grants from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation and the French government, Dar created in Paris during 1990-92. In 1993 she established The Noa Dar Dance Group in Tel Aviv, collaborating with eight dancers, musicians, and visual artists. Since then, Dar created 25 works commissioned by the major Israeli festivals: Israel Festival, Curtain Up, Acco Festival for Alternative Theater,[1] and Children's Sound.
The company is performing intensively throughout the year in Israel and abroad. Among its international tours have been festivals in Rome, Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Lisbon, Vienna, Berlin, Essen, Frankfurt, Münster, Rovereto, Budapest, Poznań, Tallinn, Vilnius, Den Haag, Shanghai, Santiago, and San José.
Awards and grants
- 1997: Dar was a recipient of a creation grant from Bi-Arts, supported by the British Council.
- 2002: The Group received the Minister of Culture's prize for excellent performance.
- 2006; "Tetris" received an award of excellence from the 2006 Accor Festival for Alternative Theater.
- 2008: Dar was awarded the performing arts Rosenblum Prize for artistic excellence from the City of Tel-Aviv.
- 2009: Dar was awarded the Minister of Culture’s Creation Prize, for her achievements in choreography.
- 2010: Dar was awarded the Landau Prize, from the National lottery Council for the Arts, for her contribution as a dance creator to Israeli culture.
