Nitzan Hanochi (Hebrew: ניצן חנוכי; born June 10, 1986) is an Israeli professional basketball player who currently plays for Maccabi Rishon LeZion from the Israeli Premier League. He plays as guard and is 190cm (6ft 3in) tall. Hanochi's biggest achievement until today is winning the Israeli Premier League with Maccabi Rishon LeZion, as team captain.
Playing career
Hanochi started to play basketball when he was 9, in the youth system of Maccabi Ra'anana. Hanochi played high school basketball with Metro West High School in Ra'anana, his hometown. He led them to win the National High Schools Championship in 2003–04 season, and was also named as MVP of the Youth League with Maccabi Ra'anana. In 2004–05 season he started to train with Bnei Hasharon, but was loaned for two years to Maccabi Giva'at Shmuel before the season was started. In his first season as senior player, Hanochi averaged 1.7 points, 0.6 rebounds and 0.1 assists per game, with only 3.4 minutes per game. He decided to return to Bnei Hasharon after only one season because of the low number of chances he got.
In the following season Hanochi got a lot of chances from Yakov Gino, the coach of Bnei Hasharon who also coached him in the Israeli national youth team. Hanochi improved his defensive game, and his shooting. He averaged 4.3 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.0 steal per game, and saw a big change in his minutes average – 19.4 per game.
