Nisbets is the UK's leading mail order company for catering equipment and catering supplies.[1] Based in Avonmouth, Bristol, Nisbets has expanded across multiple countries in Europe and Oceania.
Background
The original idea came from a small business Peter Nisbet bought in 1967. The business supplied knife sets to catering colleges in the South West. Years later In 1987 Andrew Nisbet, Peter Nisbet’s son, identified a potential gap in the catering equipment market, distributing to the trade through catalogue direct marketing.
The company was based in Prewett Street, Redcliff at that time. By 1986, Nisbets was large enough to warrant a move to a new site, and moved just a mile north east in Bristol to Waterloo Street in Old Market, where it operated until 1995. Nisbets moved to Aztec West in 1995, and then to Fourth Way in Avonmouth in 2004. The concept of "Next Day Delivery" became central to the business.
The company now supplies restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs, hotels, the professional chef, caterers, in fact anyone preparing and serving food to the public. With over 2000 employees and revenues of £300 million worldwide, Nisbets is considered Europe's largest supplier of catering equipment.[2]
