Nikhil Dwivedi (born 25 November 1979 in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India) [1] is an Indian actor. He has five movie releases to his name, making his debut with My Name is Anthony Gonsalves in 2008 that also saw him being nominated for the Filmfare Best Male Debut award.[2]
Early life
Nikhil Dwivedi was born in a middle-class family in Kanpur and owing to his father's profession as a banker; he had often moved around and changed residences from time-to-time. Growing up in many towns of Uttar Pradesh before his father moved to Mumbai for good. A proper, well-rounded education meant a lot to his family and Nikhil had to complete all stages of education towards this objective. He completed his primary schooling in Mumbai and higher secondary education from Sherwood College, Nainital in Uttarakhand, India whose notable alumni list includes the legendary Indian film actor Amitabh Bachchan. He completed his graduation in the city of Mumbai and his Masters in Business Administration from Symbiosis, Pune. He was picked up by American Express Bank through the campus placements system and worked for AEB before moving on to work for a consumer electronics conglomerate. However, he gave up all of this to pursue acting in films.[2]
Film career
Growing up in a service oriented middle-class family, acting and films was a profession that was never encouraged at home. However Nikhil had decided from a very young age to grow up to be an actor. Pursuing a serious academic degree meant that Nikhil had to struggle to enter the world of films without formal training in acting or film-making.
He received his first major break to star as the lead in My Name is Anthony Gonsalves, he kept his family in the dark and would go for the shoot on the pretext of work. It was only when his family read about the movie in the leading entertainment magazine, Filmfare, did they realize that their son is actually going to become an actor. Nikhil Dwivedi made his movie debut with My Name is Anthony Gonsalves in early 2008 which was directed by E. Niwas and co-produced by Shahrukh Khan's Red Chillies production house. He was instantly recognized for the role that he played of a strong and ambitious yet good-at-heart Anthony Gonsalves and he went on to secure the role of Lakshman in Mani Ratnam's Raavan that also starred Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan. His third movie Shor in the City brought him critical and commercial success where he played the role of Ramesh alongside Tusshar Kapoor in the Balaji Telefilms production. Nikhil Dwivedi's fourth venture "Hate Story" directed by Vivek Agnihotri has been his most commercially successful film yet which opened to packed houses. His fifth film Tamanchey in which he co-starred with Richa Chadda is considered his best defined role and most important critics rated his performance as very high and certainly his best till date.[2][3]
Personal life
Nikhil Dwivedi married model and actress Gowri Pandit in early 2011 at a small ceremony following a relationship whose seriousness had only been known to their close family and friends.[4] The wedding reception was a well attended event.[5]
