Nagle Catholic College is a private Catholic secondary school, in Geraldton, Western Australia, founded in 1994, whose strong mission, high academic standards and contribution to the community has made it into one of Western Australia's most known schools.[2]
Nagle Catholic College's foundation was the result of a merger between Stella Maris Presentation College which was established in 1891 and St. Patrick's College which was founded in 1926.[3] The current collage's campus is located on the former Stella Maris Presentation College, which today has grown to a college catering to 1,200 students.
Nagle Catholic College was voted "Best School" in Geraldton as voted in The Best of Geraldton competition, held by Red FM.[4]
History
Nagle Catholic College was formed from the agreement between authorities of the two parent colleges, Stella Maris Presentation College and St. Patrick's College. The authorities thought it would be beneficial to combine the schools, which would be more beneficial in catering students. The college was named after Nano Nagle, who founded the Presentation Sisters in Ireland in 1775.[5]
Stella Maris Presentation College and St. Patrick's College
However, Nagle Catholic College's history spans back to 1981, where Stella Maris Presentation College was opened by the Presentation Sisters. It catered for females around the town of Geraldton. Some thirty-five years later, in 1926, St. Patrick's College was opened by the Christian Brothers, which catered for the male population of Geraldton. For the ensuing sixty-eight years, these two boarding schools continued to cater for the educational needs of the Geraldton community.
Nagle today
Nagle Catholic College still follows the teachings of their founders. Nagle has been very active in the community, wherein the college organises programs that helps the local community and beyond.
