Mystic Muffin is a Canadian fast-food falafel restaurant in Toronto, Canada, located at the corner of Jarvis St. and Richmond St.[1] The restaurant serves falafel and chicken pitas, salads and pies but it is known by Toronto residents for its apple cake and its owner, Elias Makhoul.[2][1]

History

Mystic Muffin's owner Elias Makhoul was born in southern Lebanon, and moved to Canada at age 21.[3] During the Great Recession, Makhoul offered free meals and free cooking classes to regular customers who had been laid off from their jobs.[2][4]

Makhoul also ran for mayor in the 2003 Toronto municipal election but received less than one per cent of the total votes.[1]
