The My2K Tour is a tour featuring American pop bands 98 Degrees, O-Town, Dream, and singer Ryan Cabrera, all who started their careers in the early 1990s and 2000s. The tour is considered a "throwback" tour to create nostalgia for fans, especially to the Y2K scare.[1]
The tour was announced April 25, 2016, with performances scheduled through August 2016 in the United States.[2]
Artists
All artists on the tour became popular in the late-1990s and the early 2000s. Much of their success started and was promoted through MTV, especially via Total Request Live, where the artists performed and their music videos were played on the show's countdown.
98 Degrees
98 Degrees became popular as a boy band in the late 1990s with their debut single, "Invisible Man", which peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1997. They went on hiatus in 2003, pursuing other ventures individually, but reunited in 2013 with a new album. Their career, thus far, has yielded four studio albums and six Top 40 Billboard Hot 100 hits. The My2K Tour marks their first headlining tour in 15 years, not including their opening act slot on New Kids on the Block's The Package Tour in 2013.
O-Town
O-Town was formed in 2000 via the MTV-produced Making the Band. Their self-titled debut, O-Town, was released on January 23, 2001. It contained two Top 10 singles, "Liquid Dreams" and "All Or Nothing". A second album, O2, was released in 2002 to limited success, and the band disbanded shortly after. They reunited in 2013 (sans original member Ashley Parker Angel) and released a third album, Lines & Circles, in 2014.
Dream
Dream is a girl group formed in 1998. They were signed by Sean Combs to Bad Boy Records, and their debut album, It Was All a Dream, was released on January 23, 2001. The album went Platinum and spawned two Top 40 singles: "He Loves U Not" and "This is Me". After the 9/11 attacks, Bad Boy lost interest in the group. In 2003, after a lineup change and a shelved second album, Dream broke up. Failed reunion attempts followed in the next several years, but in 2015, the original lineup reunited and performed an a cappella version of "He Loves U Not" on YouTube, which was featured on several sites. They are currently recording a new album, and the My2K Tour marks their first tour in 15 years.
Ryan Cabrera
Ryan Cabrera, the lone solo artist on the tour, got signed to Atlantic Records in 2001. Three years later, he released his major-label debut LP, Take It All Away. The album went Gold and spawned two Top 40 singles: "On the Way Down" and "True". He has since remained active in music, putting out two more albums, an EP, and even started a side project titled Beyond The Sky. In 2004, he was in a relationship with Ashlee Simpson, the sister of 98 Degrees member Nick Lachey's ex-wife, Jessica Simpson
