History
The station opened on 30 October 1915 as a station on the Daito Railway (大湯鉄道) with the name originally read as "Mukainohara".[1] The Daito Railway was nationalized and absorbed into the Japanese Government Railways on 1 December 1922, and the reading of the station name was changed to "Mukainoharu" from this date, although the Japanese characters for the name remained unchanged.[1] With the privatization of Japanese National Railways (JNR) on 1 April 1987, the station came under the control of JR Kyushu.[1]
