Muja (alligator)
Muja, an American alligator at Belgrade Zoo, is considered to be the oldest alligator in the world.[1] Muјa arrived in Belgrade with another alligator, his mate, in September 1936 from Germany. At the time he arrived he was already an adult, so it is assumed that he was born before 1936. He survived World War II, during which the Zoo was almost completely destroyed, and the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999.
In 2012, he underwent a successful surgery to amputate some of his leg after he was diagnosed with gangrene.[2][3]
