List of Danganronpa characters

The following is a list of characters from the Spike Chunsoft video game series, Danganronpa. The series follows the students of Hope's Peak Academy who are forced into a life of mutual killing by a sadistic teddy bear named Monokuma. The series currently consists of three games, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, and Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls, along with an upcoming sequel, Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony, various spin-off novels, and two television anime series; an adaptation of the first game and a sequel, Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak High School. Where available, this article uses name spellings and terminology used in the English video games.

Monokuma

Voiced by: Nobuyo Ōyama (2010-2015), Tarako (2016 - present)[1] (Japanese); Brian Beacock (Games), Greg Ayres (Anime)[2] (English)

Monokuma (モノクマ, lit. Monobear) is the main antagonist of the series. A strange, remote-controlled teddy bear who proclaims himself to be the headmaster of Hope's Peak Academy and initiates a life of mutual killing amongst the students. He has various copies of himself throughout the Academy and will punish, i.e. kill, anyone that attempts to attack him or otherwise break the academy's rules. Much like his name, he has a monochrome appearance, with one half looking like a cute white bear and the other half looking like a sadistic black bear. The identity of Monokuma's controller, as well as his motives for bringing the students together, are the central mysteries that the students must investigate. It's revealed that Monokuma is actually a series of robots created by Monaca Towa for an army that Junko used. In the first two games Monokuma was used as a proxy for Junko in her trials, while in Ultra Despair Girls he is just a series of enemies, and in Danganronpa 3 he is now under the control of Kazuo Tegan to force Ryota to brainwash the entire world for hope. He is the only returning character in V3 as a part of the Gifted Inmates Academy though it is unknown who is controlling him but now is accompanied by his "children" led by Monotarou.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

The characters of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc. From the back row (left to right): Yasuhiro Hagakure, Mukuro Ikusaba (as Junko Enoshima), Celestia Ludenberg, Sakura Ogami, Hifumi Yamada, Mondo Owada, Chihiro Fujisaki, Kiyotaka Ishimaru, Byakuya Togami, Toko Fukawa, Leon Kuwata, Sayaka Maizono, Makoto Naegi, Kyoko Kirigiri, Aoi Asahina, and Monokuma.
Makoto Naegi (苗木 誠 Naegi Makoto)
Voiced by: Megumi Ogata (Japanese); Bryce Papenbrook (English)
The main protagonist of the series. An ordinary high school student who was accepted to the academy by raffle. He has no spectacular talents, aside from his belief that he is a bit more optimistic than most people, and was given the title of Ultimate Lucky Student (超高校級の「幸運」 Chō-kōkō-kyū no "Kōun", Super High School Level Good Luck) due to winning the lottery, though ironically, he often falls prey to bad luck more often than not. It is later revealed in a short story that Makoto's luck comes from the fact that his bad luck is so powerful that it cancels the good luck of anyone around him, to the point where he managed to get a fellow Lucky Student candidate eliminated just by standing near the mailman carrying her acceptance letter; however, it is also shown that, though his good luck rarely manifests, it is immensely powerful in its own right, allowing outcomes that are nearly statistically impossible to occur, such as getting the Escape Switch from the item machine or surviving his near-execution. Whilst having the tendency to panic or let his emotions get the better of him, he can remain focused under pressure and shows a keen logic when piecing together mysteries. He is instrumental in solving all of the murder mysteries, and foils Monokuma's plans, earning the new title of Ultimate Hope (超高校級の「希望」 Chō-kōkō-kyū no "Kibō", Super High School Level Hope). He manages to escape from the academy alive and joins an organization called the Future Foundation, dedicated to rebuilding the world and fighting against Junko's legacy.
During the events of Danganronpa 2, he and the other survivors attempt to rehabilitate some of the Remnants of Despair by placing them inside a virtual world which would rewrite their memories of being Ultimate Despair students. However, because of a virus containing Junko's Alter Ego, the world is turned into another killing game, prompting Makoto, Kyoko, and Byakuya to eventually enter the virtual world themselves to help the other survivors activate a shutdown sequence to stop Junko once and for all. Makoto also appears in Danganronpa Another Episode. He returns as the protagonist of Danganronpa 3, where he becomes involved in Monokuma's Monokuma Hunter game. His forbidden action is "running in the hallway".[3] After surviving the Monokuma Hunter game, Makoto becomes the headmaster of the rebuilt Hope's Peak Academy.
Kyoko Kirigiri (霧切 響子 Kirigiri Kyōko)
Voiced by: Yōko Hikasa (Japanese); Erika Harlacher (Game),[4] Caitlin Glass (Anime)[2] (English)
The main heroine of the first game, Kyoko is a mysterious female who seemingly has amnesia but also possesses a cool head and reasoning skills. The skill for which she was accepted into the academy for is unknown, so her presented title is Ultimate ??? (超高校級の「???」 Chō-kōkō-kyū no "???", Super High School Level ???). Whilst generally untrusting of others, she soon comes to believe in Naegi and helps him out on many occasions. She later finds out her true title is Ultimate Detective (超高校級の「探偵」 Chō-kōkō-kyū no "Tantei", Super High School Level Detective), having had more of her memories removed than the others due to how her talent would hinder Monokuma's plans. She always wears a pair of gloves, which is later revealed to be for hiding some burns she received on her hands when she was younger. She is also the daughter of Hope's Peak Academy's headmaster. She survives the game and manages to escape from the academy and becomes a member of the Future Foundation.
In Danganronpa 2, she joins Makoto and Byakuya in confronting Alter Ego Junko. In Danganronpa 3, she becomes involved in the Monokuma Hunter game alongside Makoto and other Future Foundation members. She is presumedly killed by the poison in her bangle as a result of her forbidden action, "passing the fourth time limit with Makoto still alive". At the end of the series, however, it is revealed she had survived thanks to an antidote created by Seiko, which slowed the poison's effects and put her in a coma until she is revived by Mikan. She then becomes a teacher at the new Hope's Peak Academy. She also stars in the spin-off novel series, Danganronpa Kirigiri.

However, he soon identifies Makoto as a potential competitor, and after the second murder, he alters the crime scene as a test for Makoto. Eventually he becomes more amicable to the group, especially after the death of Sakura. He is one of the survivors that manages to escape from the academy and becomes a member of the Future Foundation. His title is Ultimate Affluent Progeny (超高校級の「御曹司」 Chō-kōkō-kyū no "Onzōshi", Super High School Level Scion). He appears in Danganronpa 2 alongside Makoto and Kyoko. In Another Episode, he comes to Towa City to rescue Komaru, giving her the Hacking Gun, but gets captured by the Warriors of Hope and used as a hostage, eventually getting rescued with the help of Komaru and Toko.[3] He also stars in the spinoff novel series, Danganronpa Togami, and reappears in Danganronpa 3.

Toko switches between the two whenever she sneezes, or if the normal Toko passes out, usually due to the sight of blood, allowing Jack to take control. The two personalities share knowledge, as well as a disturbing crush on Byakuya, but their memories are separate from each other. As such, Jack is the only one of the group who still has memories of the past two years. She is one of the survivors that manages to escape from the academy. Her title is Ultimate Writing Prodigy (超高校級の「文学少女」 Chō-kōkō-kyū no "Bungaku Shōjo", Super High School Level Literary Girl) whilst Jack calls herself the Ultimate Murderous Fiend (超高校級の「殺人者」 Chō-kōkō-kyū no "Satsujinsha", Super High School Level Serial Killer).
In Another Episode, she has become a honorary member of the Future Foundation, carrying with her a stungun that can be used to control Jack at will on the condition that she no longer kill anyone. He is the eldest in the group, as he was held back several grades, and often ends his sentences with "da be" in the original Japanese version of the game. He is one of the survivors that manages to escape from the academy and becomes a member of the Future Foundation (whereas in demo versions and previews, he is depicted as the first victim). He appears in the spin-off novel Ultra Despair Hagakure included in Another Episode, helping Leon's cousin Kanon escape from Towa City. He reappears in Danganronpa 3, where he ends up separated from the other Future Foundation members after their hideout is attacked, leaving him outside the building. After Monokuma threatens to expose everyone's secrets, Chihiro becomes determined to overcome his weakness and shares his secret with Owada. However, this ends up angering Mondo who, in a fit of blind rage, smashes Chihiro's head in with a dumbbell, making him the second murder victim. Known as Celeste (セレス Seresu) for short. A student in Gothic Lolita costume who is a famous gambler and known as the "Queen of Liars." She claims to live by the ethic that one must adapt if they want to survive. Whilst typically calm and collected, she will occasionally have uncharacteristic outbursts if something really annoys her. Appealed by a cash reward for graduating, which she wishes to use to buy a castle, she manipulates and seduces Hifumi into killing Kiyotaka, before killing him herself, hoping to pin the crime on Yasuhiro. She is soon found guilty when Hifumi's dying words are found to be referring to her real name, Taeko Yasuhiro (安広 多恵子 Yasuhiro Taeko). She is executed by being almost burned alive at a stake, only to be abruptly run over by a speeding fire truck. Her title is Ultimate Martial Artist (超高校級の「格闘家」 Chō-kōkō-kyū no "Kakutōka", Super High School Level Fighter).
Junko Enoshima (江ノ島 盾子 Enoshima Junko)
Voiced by: Megumi Toyoguchi (Japanese); Amanda Celine Miller/Erin Fitzgerald (Game), Jamie Marchi (Anime)[2] (English)
A charismatic gyaru fashion model who has modeled for many popular magazines. She is thought to have been killed by Monokuma near the start of the game, having been impaled by several spears after assaulting Monokuma as punishment for breaking the school rules. It is soon revealed that she is actually the true mastermind behind the events of the game, who had erased the memories of all the students and put them in this death game, the one who was really killed being her twin sister, Mukuro. Her true personality is one that is constantly changing as she gets bored easily, and she thrives to drive people to despair. The strangeness of her true persona is also compounded by her having to play the role of Monokuma, who has a drastically different personality from her own, as well as the stress of running the Mutual Killing Game by herself without any kind of support; by the time the survivors confront her, it is said that Junko has gone completely insane, her original personality long since lost in her psychosis. She is also the cause of the current state of the school and the world, having manipulated and/or brainwashed the school's disgruntled reserve course students into rioting over their unfair treatment, which the school desperately tried to cover up until it spilled out into the outside world and caused a worldwide uprising against those perceived as special or privileged. When her plans are foiled by Makoto's dedication to never give up hope, she begins to revel in the ultimate form of despair and commits suicide by subjecting herself to a combination of the executions she inflicted on the other students; but at the last second before her death, she becomes bored with despair and dies without knowing the despair of death she was so excited about mere seconds ago. Her body is then dismembered by several members of Ultimate Despair and the parts grafted onto their bodies. Her title is Ultimate Fashionista (超高校級の「ギャル」 Chō-kōkō-kyū no "Gyaru", Super High School Level Gal), but her true titles are Ultimate Analyst (超高校級の「分析力」Chō kōkō kyū no Bunsekiryoku, Super High School Level Analytical Prowess) and Ultimate Despair (超高校級の「絶望」 Chō-kōkō-kyū no Zetsubō, Super High School Level Despair).
In Danganronpa 2, an Alter Ego Junko infiltrates the virtual world as a virus, turning what should have been a rehabilitation program into another killing game intended to both provide a physical host for her consciousness and to jog the memories and personalities of the students she was able to manipulate into her nihilistic philosophy. She attempts to get the remaining students to 'graduate' so that her personality can take over the real world bodies of those that died within the virtual world, but she is ultimately thwarted by Hajime and is destroyed when the virtual world is shut down. Her avatar appears as a fully three-dimensional giant version possessing a video cell phone that she uses to communicate with the students in the virtual world. She is defeated by Hajime and is deleted, but not before revealing that, after having failed twice, she doesn't even feel despair at her defeat; just disappointment, which she had earlier claimed to be the one emotion that she hates above all else.
Mukuro Ikusaba (戦刃 むくろ Ikusaba Mukuro)
Voiced by: Megumi Toyoguchi (Japanese); Amanda Celine Miller (Game), Jamie Marchi (Anime) (English) [2]
The elusive sixteenth student of Hope's Peak Academy, who the others only become aware of when she is announced as the sixth murder victim. She comes from a mercenary unit known as Fenrir and holds the title Ultimate Soldier (超高校級の「軍人」 Chō-kōkō-kyū no "Gunjin", Super High School Level Mercenary). It is soon revealed that Mukuro, who was actually Junko's twin sister and one of the Super High School Level Despair Students, was actually disguised as Junko at the beginning of the killing game and was initially supposed to start the game by committing the first murder and would join her sister after her fake execution, only for Junko to become bored with the original plan and kill Mukuro on a whim. In the alternate story depicted in the Danganronpa IF digital novel included with Danganronpa 2, Mukuro is saved from being killed by Junko thanks to Makoto, deciding to turn against her sister and help everyone escape from the academy alive once she realizes that her sister is beyond saving. During the novel, it is revealed that Mukuro does not share Junko's nihilist philosophy and only involved herself with Ultimate Despair because she loved her sister too much to abandon her.
Alter Ego (アルターエゴ Arutā Ego)
Voiced by: Kōki Miyata (Japanese); Dorothy Elias-Fahn (Game), Kara Edwards (Anime) (English)
An artificial intelligence program left behind by Chihiro following his death. He generally speaks with Chihiro's voice and likeness, but can also imitate other students. After the others discover him on a laptop Chihiro fixed, he helps them decrypt some data on the laptop to help the other students and is soon treated as a friend. Afterwards, Alter Ego asks Makoto and Kyoko to help connect him to the school network so he can find out more, but he is soon discovered by Monokuma and is destroyed by a bulldozer following the fourth trial. However, he manages to leave behind a virus in the network which helps save Makoto when Monokuma attempts to execute him. In Danganronpa 2, another Alter Ego (presumedly a different one) appears as an AI in the virtual world.
Jin Kirigiri (霧切 仁 Kirigiri Jin)
Voiced by: Kappei Yamaguchi (Game), Rikiya Koyama (Anime) (Japanese); J. Michael Tatum (Anime) (English)

Hajime Hinata (日向 創 Hinata Hajime) / Izuru Kamukura (神座 出流 Kamukura Izuru)
Voiced by: Minami Takayama (Japanese); Johnny Yong Bosch (English)
The protagonist who has revered the academy since childhood. Having no memory of the skill that landed him in the academy, he is given the title of Ultimate ???. However, with his investigative skills, he manages to help solve all of the murder mysteries, and even uncovers the truth behind Jabberwock Island being a simulated reality. He also discovers that he was originally part of the Reserve Course, a section of Hope's Peak Academy for students without Ultimate talents that was built to help stave off the school's approaching bankruptcy through its exorbitant entry fees. Being heavily mocked and ridiculed for his lack of actual talent led him to become a test subject in the Hope Cultivation Project, leading his memory and personality to be erased and replaced with one incorporating several Ultimate talents, which removed his ability to empathize and take joy in the people around him. Under his new persona Izuru Kamukura, the "Ultimate Hope", he grew bored with the world due to being unable to relate to anyone, and was manipulated by Junko Enoshima into being present at the prototype Killing Game where he killed a single person in self-defense, only to have the entire event blamed on him to incite the events that destroyed human civilization. Despite learning of this, Hajime manages to think for himself and help the others delete Alter Ego Junko. He is one of the survivors that manages to escape to the real world, deciding to live on as Hajime and look for a way to try to restore those who had died within the virtual world. He is briefly seen during the epilogue of Another Episode in his Izuru guise, ripping out parts of Kurokuma and Shirokuma before he is sent to Jabberwock Island. At the end of Danganronpa 3: Despair Arc, it is revealed that Izuru, having never actually been part of Ultimate Despair, had been freed of Junko's manipulations by Chiaki's death which, when combined with being blamed for the Killing Game, caused Izuru to enact a revenge scheme that would see Enoshima utterly erased from existence, which succeeds when his Hajime personality deletes AI Junko. During Danganronpa 3: Hope Arc, Hajime is revealed to have retained the talents he gained as Izuru and managed to use them to revive everyone who died in the virtual world, managing to stop Ryota from using his hope video before taking him with everyone towards a new future. He and his friends then broadcast a video claiming responsibility for the final Killing Game, freeing the Future Foundation of suspicion.
Nagito Komaeda (狛枝 凪斗 Komaeda Nagito)
Voiced by: Megumi Ogata (Japanese); Bryce Papenbrook[16] (English)
Nagito is a character in the second game, and the player can play from his perspective for part of the Investigative phase of Chapter 4. Nagito is a deliberate foil to the previous protagonist, Makoto, and like him is an optimistic, subservient student who was accepted to the academy by raffle and received the title of Ultimate Lucky Student. Unlike Makoto, however, his title is more literal, as he experiences an extraordinary cycle of good and bad luck that ultimately works to his benefit (when good) or which causes some sort of harm to him (when bad). Whilst initially thought to be a friendly and upbeat (if somewhat meek) young man, he is quickly shown to be quite deranged in his pursuit of 'hope', believing it to be an absolute good that only his 'talented' classmates can achieve. Because of that, he is completely willing to let his 'talented' classmates walk all over him as he sees himself as inferior to them, all while keeping his cheerful and optimistic attitude and frequently referring to himself as a 'stepping-stone' for their 'hope'. He remains cheerful and enthusiastic even in horrifying situations when someone has just died, which results in his classmates fearing him and finding him incredibly creepy. He is highly unstable and suicidal, as the bad luck of his cycle causes catastrophes in his life that he believes are unavoidable; this is compounded by the fact that he has a degenerative brain disease that is slowly eating away at his ability to think rationally and which will soon kill him. He also feels deep self-loathing over his talent being, in his mind, lackluster compared to his classmates' and thus feels that he is unworthy of even standing in the same room as them. After learning that he and the other students (with the exception of Chiaki) are the members of Ultimate Despair who were responsible for the destruction of the world, he becomes aggressive and confrontational towards the others. In order to rid the island of the Ultimate Despair students, he sets up a trap for the others by setting up a scenario in which it looks like he committed suicide, whilst actually tricking the only innocent student Chiaki into inadvertently killing him with poison, hoping the end result will lead to the execution of all Ultimate Despair students and rescue Chiaki alone. However, Hajime realizes what truly happened and Chiaki takes responsibility for his death, saving the other students.
In Another Episode, Nagito appears under the title of "Servant" (召使い Meshitsukai), serving under the Warriors of Hope who had captured him. The Warriors of Hope frequently abused him, though he took that all with a smile. It is later revealed that he was manipulating the Warriors of Hope, in order to allow Komaru Naegi grow and defeat despair through her power of hope. Even though the game took place during the 77th's class's time as Ultimate Despair, Nagito was unique in that he still longed for hope, whereas the others were fighting for despair alone.[3]
In Danganronpa 3, Nagito appears with the rest of his classmates after having awoken from their comas to rescue Makoto Naegi. It appears that during the timeskip between Nagito's 'death' in the program and his appearance in Danganronpa 3, he has changed his worldview and is no longer obsessed with 'talent' or 'hope'. He is also once again friendly with his other classmates, especially Hajime, although his fanboy-like tendencies remain, as seen in his excitement over finally meeting Makoto in person.
Chiaki Nanami (七海 千秋 Nanami Chiaki)
Voiced by: Kana Hanazawa (Japanese); Christine Marie Cabanos[17] (English)
The main heroine of the second game, Chiaki is a sleepy, laid-back student who is inexperienced in the ways of the world, but very skilled at video games. Along with Hajime, she quickly becomes a central figure of the trials. She accidentally kills Nagito, falling into his trap which was meant to ensure her survival alone, but she thwarts his plans by confessing her identity and offering herself to be executed by getting crushed by a Tetris block in order to save the remaining students. It is learned during the "Graduation" that she is actually an AI program designed to observe and protect the students during the Future Foundation's experiment. However, some of her consciousness remains, allowing her to help Hajime during his conflict. Her title is Ultimate Gamer (超高校級の「ゲーマー」 Chō-kōkō-kyū no "Gēmā", Super High School Level Gamer).
In Danganronpa 3, it is revealed that the AI program was based on an actual student who attended Hope's Peak Academy along with the rest of Class 77. Chiaki quickly befriended Hajime and was unanimously elected class representative after bringing video games to the class to help everyone bond. However, it was because of these traits that she was chosen to be executed by Junko in order to drive the rest of her class into becoming Remnants of Despair, forced to go through a dungeon filled with deadly traps before being skewered to death. It is her death that breaks Izuru free of Junko's control, causing the once-apathetic genius to begin planning his revenge.
Chiaki is the only student of the 77th Class who stays dead permanently, as she was physically killed by Junko, compared to the other 'victims' who died within the simulation, fell into comas and were subsequently revived by Hajime. The ending of Danganronpa 3 shows Hajime finally bidding farewell to the AI version of Chiaki, as he embraces and chases his own future by joining Nagito and his other classmates.
Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu (九頭龍 冬彦 Kuzuryū Fuyuhiko)
Voiced by: Daisuke Kishio (Japanese); Derek Stephen Prince (Game),[18] Aaron Dismuke (Anime) (English)[19]
A wary student who is the successor of the largest yakuza family in the country. He threatens violence to anyone who mentions his boyish face. He meets with Mahiru after learning of her involvement in his sister's death, but becomes enraged and nearly kills her when she calls him out for the murder of her friend, Sato (the girl who killed his sister) which the academy had covered up to preserve its reputation. She is the fourth murder victim, having her throat slit by Mikan after she accidentally stumbled upon her killing Ibuki. Her title is Ultimate Traditional Dancer (超高校級の「日本舞踊家」 Chō-kōkō-kyū no "Nihonbuyōka", Super High School Level Japanese Dancer).

He murders Nekomaru after being forced to choose between murder or starvation and is executed by being trampled to death by a stampede of animals. It is shown in a flashback that both he and Nekomaru understood that if one of them didn't kill the other, there was a good chance all the students would remain trapped and starve to death, and thus they engaged in honorable hand-to-hand combat, with Gundham emerging victorious with the help of his hamsters. After taking over the school trip, Monokuma refits Usami with a pink monochrome appearance and forcefully changes her name to Monomi. She speaks with a lisp and her favorite phrase is "love, love". Despite being usurped by Monokuma, she still does what she can to help the students. It is later revealed that her true purpose was to serve as a monitor for the students rehabilitation, working alongside Chiaki. She is executed alongside Chiaki when all of her backup bodies are destroyed, but she reappears to destroy Alter Ego Junko when the virtual world is shut down. Makoto's younger sister and the main heroine of Another Episode, who first appeared briefly in the first game during Naegi's motivational DVD, in which she and her parents ended up in an unknown disaster. In Another Episode, which takes place half a year after the events of the first game, it is revealed that Komaru had been locked up inside an apartment complex in Towa City, unaware of what had occurred in the outside world. When a Monokuma robot attacks her, she is given a Hacking Gun by Byakuya and attempts to flee the city with the Future Foundation. However, she is caught by the Warriors of Hope and is forced to play in their Demon's Hunting game, meeting up with Toko along the way. After facing countless trials, growing stronger as a person, it is eventually revealed that the purpose of her trials were part of Monaca's plan to mould her into becoming Junko's successor. However, with the support of Toko, Komaru regains her hope, ultimately deciding to stay in Towa City to help its citizens. She later reappears in Danganronpa 3, once again working with Toko to stop Monaca. As she has no particularly outstanding qualities, she is given the title of "Ordinary Girl with an Ultimate Big Brother" (超高校級の兄を持つ“ふつうの少女” Chō kōkō-kyū no Ani o Motsu "Futsū no Shōjo").
Warriors of Hope (希望の戦士 Kibō no Senshi)
A group of five RPG fanatic elementary school children from Hope's Peak Academy's elementary school branch, built to monitor potential child prodigies, with the Warriors being considered on par with Ultimate Students in terms of sheer talent. The Warriors of Hope were all abused children who made a suicide pact who, just as they were about to go through with it, were stopped by Junko, leading them to idolize her. Junko, on a whim, manipulated the children's emotions and ultimately drove them into despair for fun. They control the Monokuma robots attacking the city. Their plan is to take over the world by murdering all the grown-ups (who they call "Demons") and creating a paradise for children. Their titles are based on elementary school subjects. By the end of the game, the Warriors of Hope realize that they were being manipulated by Junko and Monaca, and ultimately decide to try and redeem themselves for what they've done.
Monaca Towa (塔和 最中 (モナカ) Tōwa Monaka)
Voiced by: Aya Hirano (Japanese); Cristina Vee[28] (English)
The Mage (魔法使い Mahōtsukai) of the Warriors of Hope, who is restricted to a wheelchair (although it is later revealed she can walk perfectly well, having faked her injury to manipulate others' pity) and main antagonist of the game following the defeat of the Monokuma Kids. While apparently polite and cutesy, in reality she is an amoral, sociopathic manipulator who does not hesitate to resort to triggering the mental issues of the other Warriors of Hope to get them in line (even resorting to borderline sexual extortion of Nagisa at one point). She is the more substantial leader of the group, as the others will often bow to her whims to keep her emotions under control. She is later revealed to be Haiji's younger half-sister, who had been faking her own disability so that people would pity her and used the Towa Group to create the Monokuma robots. It is soon revealed that her true intention was not to build a paradise for children, but instead to spark a war between Towa City and the Future Foundation and turn Komaru into the second coming of Junko. Following her defeat, she is rescued by Nagito, who inspires her to become the next Junko Enoshima. She reappears in Danganronpa 3, killing Miaya Gekkogahara and replacing her with a robot that she controls. After being confronted by Komaru and Toko again, Monaca reveals that having to deal with Nagito had completely put her off despair and soured her image of Junko to the point that she no longer wanted anything to do with the title of Ultimate Despair. She ultimately decides to become a NEET instead, blasting herself into space, but not before revealing that she was not the mastermind of the final Killing Game, but merely a third party. Her former title is Li'l Ultimate Homeroom (超小学生級の学活の時間 Chō Shōgakusei-kyū no Gakukatsu no Jikan, lit. Super Elementary School Level Homeroom).

Voiced by: Sumire Uesaka (Japanese); Michelle Ruff (English)[30]
The Priest (僧侶 Sōryo) of the Warriors of Hope, who wears an iron mask covering his face, which is actually a cute child-like face. His parents often felt intimidated by how beautiful he was, and coped by emotionally abusing him. He has a creepy personality, never sure if people hate him or if he wants people to hate him, and prone to bizarre, off-topic rambling about strange topics (which he says that he is not fully aware of, comparing it to yawning). He is defeated by Komaru and Toko and subsequently punished by the Monokuma Kids. He reappears in Danganronpa 3 as one of Komaru's allies. His title is Li'l Ultimate Art (超小学生級の図工の時間 Chō Shōgakusei-kyū no Zukō no Jikan, lit. Super Elementary School Level Arts and Crafts).

The Fighter (戦士 Senshi) of the Warriors of Hope, who dresses in sweet lolita fashion and wears a pair of horns. She is a child actress with a traumatic history of sexual abuse, causing her to tense up whenever she hears the word "gentle". Her mother would prostitute her to men in the entertainment industry to improve her prospects and would often join her as a twisted form of parent-child bonding; her father, meanwhile, was having an affair with his dental hygienist and planned to sell Kotoko into sex slavery after she started puberty and leave his wife for his mistress. She is defeated by Komaru and Toko but is spared from her punishment thanks to Genocide Jack. She later learns the true nature of Monaka's plans and turns against her. She is later seen fighting the Monokuma Kids alongside the other Warriors of Hope. She reappears in Danganronpa 3 as one of Komaru's allies. Her title is Li'l Ultimate Drama (超小学生級の学芸会の時間 Chō Shōgakusei-kyū no Gakugei-kai no Jikan, lit. Super Elementary School Level School Play).

Voiced by: Mariya Ise (Japanese); Erica Mendez[32] (English)
Vice-leader of the Warriors of Hope, and the Sage (賢者 Kenja) of the group, who often keeps a cool composure. He is quite intellectual, largely due to the pressure forced upon him by his parents to study, injecting him with drugs and hooking him to intravenous drips to keep him awake to study. He becomes the leader following Masaru's defeat and attempts to lead Komaru out of the city to stop her interfering with their plans, only to learn from Nagito about Monaca's true intentions. He is then swayed by Monaca to go against Komaru again and is subsequently defeated. He reappears in Danganronpa 3 as one of Komaru's allies. He owns the title of Li'l Ultimate Social Studies (超小学生級の社会の時間 Chō Shōgakusei-kyū no Shakai no jikan, lit. Super Elementary School Level Social Studies).

Kurokuma on the other hand is a black bear who serves as an advisor to the Warriors of Hope, sporting a gangster-like personality and being way too talkative to the point of annoyance. At the end of the game, they are both revealed to be under the control of Alter Ego Junko, who had been using them to further her plans. Both Shirokuma and Kurokuma are destroyed by Izuru when their ceaseless talking irritates him. He then smuggles the pieces containing AI Junko to Jabberwock Island as part of his plan to permanently destroy Junko.

Voiced by: Shin-ichiro Miki (Japanese); Matthew Mercer (English)

He has a strong fear of the Future Foundation, as he does not want them to find out that his father's company built the Monokuma robots. He is Monaca's older half-brother. After witnessing the true scale of Monaca's plot, as well as Komaru's refusal to kill the Monokuma Kids, Haiji loses all desire for revenge against Monaca and continues to lead the resistance against the Monokuma robots.

However, if the player returns to the location later, Taichi's body is not there, and a note written by him is in it's place. Taichi's note states a refusal to die until he sees his wife and son safe again, implying he survived not only the attack Komaru thought killed him, but the game as a whole.

By using various techniques such as subliminal messaging, Ryota can use his anime to provoke reactions among people who viewed it. However, he was manipulated by Junko, who used his techniques to make a brainwashing despair video that turns whoever watches it to become a remnant of despair. He later becomes a member of the Future Foundation and becomes involved in the Monokuma Hunter game. It is later revealed that the same brainwashing techniques were used by Kazuo to brainwash participants into killing themselves under the guise of the attacker, driving Ryota over the edge and provoking a nervous breakdown where he decides Tegan was right to remove humanity's ability to feel despair or any other negative emotions. After the bangles are shut down and he is no longer afflicted by his forbidden action, "using his talent", Ryota prepares to use a hope video to do the opposite of Junko's despair video, which would also render humanity largely emotionless.
