Mississippi Highway 39 is a south to north highway that is 49.8 miles (80.1 km) long, between Meridian, MS and Shuqualak, MS.
Route description
The highway is four-laned from its beginning until it passes nearby NAS Meridian. It is cosigned with Mississippi Highway 145 for less than a 1/4 mile in Meridian. The highway passes through Daleville, MS and De Kalb, MS. It also passes the Sam Dale Monument. The highway also passes near the alternate NAS Meridian airstrip at Shuqualak. It is cosigned with Mississippi Highway 21 as it enters the corporate limits of Shuqualak, MS. Highway 39 spans over Lauderdale, Kemper, and Noxubee counties. Mississippi Highway 39 began at US 45 when it routed through downtown Meridian (present-day Mississippi Highway 145) until US 45 was rerouted around Meridian. So its beginning and ending were at the same highway, and it made for an alternate route between Meridian and Shuqualak, as it still does today.
