Harmanjit "Mickey" Singh (born December 21, 1990) is an Indian-born American singer, songwriter, producer, dancer, model and actor.[1][2] His first mixtape of Punjabi and English music, titled "Mick'sTape", was released for free download on July 22, 2013 which included the tracks Bad Girl, In Love and Rani Mehlan Di.[3] His music combines Urban-Desi genre, with American and Punjabi music, with jazz influences.[4]
His subsequent singles have included Cheerleader Remix, Galliyan Remix, Rooftop Party, Ho Gaya Pyaar, and Body.

Early life

Born in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, India, into a Punjabi Sikh family, Singh began singing at the age of 3. At the age of 13, he moved to the United States with his family.[5]

At the age of 15, he started working in an American studio. At the same time he went to school to learn mixing. During this time he worked with American producers, and continued listening to Bollywood music and American genres he first heard during his formative years in India.[6]

Career

2012 - 2014

In 2012 he released a Punjabi remix of Rihanna's "Birthday Cake" sung by Singh and Amar Sandhu.[7] Shortly after, in December 2012, he released his remake of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's "Akhiyan" with his own blend of western music and Punjabi vocals. On July 22, 2013 he released his mixtape titled Mick'sTape which included ten songs in which he incorporated a blend of western sounds and Indian vocals. He later did Mick's Tape Tour in 50 cities across North America.[8] The song "Bad Girl" was the first music video from the EP. At present (2016), that video has received more than 13 million views.[9] "Bad Girl" was also recognized as a must have in your Bollywood workout playlist by Women's Health magazine in December 2014.[10] The second song from the EP which has a music video is titled "In Love" featured Mickey Singh alongside Pakistani teenage artist Asim Azhar.[11] The music video of "In Love" was released on YouTube December 2013.

2014-present

His first official single was through his own label MathOne Ent. The track is titled "Double Addi" and it features vocals from Singh, Amar Sandhu, and DJ Ice. The music for the song is also produced by Singh along with 2 NyCe.[12]

He remixed Ankit Tiwari's hit song "Galliyan" from the movie Ek Villain. The remix titled "Moving On" was uploaded on YouTube December 2014. Following the first month of the release, Singh's fan following in India tripled.[13]

His first official release in India and also through an Indian-based record label occurred on February 9, 2015 when he released the single "Ho Gaya Pyar" through Speed Records.[14]

Singh collaborated with Diljit Dosanjh on romantic song titled "Ishq Haazir Hai" for whom Singh wrote the lyrics and produced the music.[15] The song reached No. 1 on the BBC Asian Network download chart the first week.[16]

Singh has performed alongside the Bollywood singers Shaan, Sunidhi Chauhan, Ali Zafar, Manj Musik, Raftaar, Badshah, Imran Khan, Jay Sean and also with actors like Parineeti Chopra, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Harjot Dhillon.[17]
