Maurice Berkeley, de jure 3rd Baron Berkeley (b. 1435 – September 1506), "The Lawyer"
The son of Sir James Berkeley, 1st Baron Berkeley by his third wife Isabel de Mowbray, and brother to William de Berkeley,1st Marquess of Berkeley. He was born at Berkeley Castle, Thornbury, Gloucestershire, England. Because of his marriage to Isabel Meade, who was considered to be below his status, Maurice was disowned by William, who had no heirs to speak of. Thus, the line of true Berkeley Barons ended with William until 1553 with Henry Berkeley becoming de facto 7th Baron Berkeley.[1]
Marriage and descent
In 1465, Maurice was married to Isabel Meade (b. 1444 - 29 May 1514), who was the daughter of Philip Meade of Wraxall an Alderman and Mayor of Bristol in 1459, 1462 and 1469. They had four children together.

He married his first wife Alienor Constable (c. 1485 - d. 1540; widow of John Ingleby of Yorkshire), daughter of Marmaduke Constable by Joyce Stafford, in 1505. His second wife was Cecily Arnold, daughter and co-heiress to Sir Arnold of Gloucestershire, widow of Richard Rowdon, Sheriff of Gloucestershire.
