Mark John McEncroe (born 1947) is an Australian composer of contemporary easy listening piano and orchestral music.
Biography
Mark John McEncroe was born in Sydney on November 15, 1947. A professional chef for most of his working life, in the 1970’s Mark also worked in the music Industry as a Label/Repertoire Manager, first with EMI Australia and then EMI Sweden.[1]
Mark's private music studies began at age 32. He first studied piano under Will Scarlet from 1979, then studied piano, clarinet and music theory with Valerie Fawcett. In 1999 he began his ongoing piano studies with Helen Kennedy,[2] taking AMEB exams along the way. At the age of 50 Mark retired as a chef [3] to concentrate completely on his music. From 2003 to 2013 he studied composition and music theory with Margaret Brandman.
Since 2007 Mark McEncroe has been working with Mark J. Saliba [4] on orchestration and composition. Saliba's orchestrations of McEncroe’s works have been recorded in The Czech Republic with The Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Anthony Armore of Blue Danube Musikimpresario, Vienna.[5] These works have been released on a CD “Affirmations & Aspirations” containing two Symphonic poems “The Passing” and “A Celebration of The Natural World” along with “Fanfare Suite" an orchestral suite in four movements.[6][7]
Mark McEncroe has recorded two volumes of solo piano works entitled “Reflections And Recollections - Musical images for Piano". Recorded at Trackdown Studios in Sydney, and performed by Australian pianist Helen Kennedy,[8] both volumes have been released on CD. [9]
In December 2014 Mark McEncroe recorded "Natalie’s Suite -Three Faces of Addiction", a Symphonic Suite for Piano and Orchestra, with The Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra and pianist Helen Kennedy.[10]
Scores of McEncroe's solo piano and orchestral works are published by Wirripang.[11]
In June 2015 Mark McEncroe recorded his seven movement "Symphonic Suite - Just Another Medieval Tale", and its sequel, also a Symphonic Suite, was recorded in Ostrava the Czech Republic in February 2016.
In January 2016 The Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra performed McEncroe's Symphonic Poem “The Passing” at two concerts in Ostrava the Czech Republic.[12]
