Marijn Poels (born 10 July 1975, in Meerlo) is a Dutch independent filmmaker, documentary maker and international speaker. He produced films like The Voice of 650 million Times One, Nothing About Us and produced several documentary series for TV. He also made tour documentaries of the Dutch punk group Heideroosjes. Poels is making films about international issues focusing on social, economical and political topics. In 2009 he wrote his first book "Between Two Worlds". Poels' film style is characterized by real-life recordings. The viewer gets a pure view of reality without being directly given any opinion by a filmmaker.
Distinctions
Medal for the peace
Poels received in 2011 “The Voice of peace” medal in Lahore, Pakistan. This medal is annually awarded to persons who committed their selves against terrorism en violence in Pakistan and coming out for human rights.
Heart for culture
The Cultural award "Heart for culture" was awarded to Poels in September 2015 by the municipality of Horst aan de Maas. The jury asks attention for people or groups who are involved in culture in an inspirational way.

Politics
In 2013 he produced the documentary Pablo, about the social cleansing ahead of the World Cup Football 2014 in Brazil. in January 2014 the documentary was screened at the Dutch parliament. In response to the screening the Christian and the Social Democratic parties (CDA and PVDA) asked parliamentary questions about the violations of human rights during the preparations of a world event.
