Islamabad railway station (Urdu: اسلام آباد ریلوے اسٹیشن) (Formerly Margalla railway station) is located in sector I-9 Islamabad, the federal capital of Pakistan.
The station was established in 1979 and a rail shuttle was started between Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The shuttle was suspended within a year due to financial loss and the station closed down. In 1988 freight train services were started from this railway station.[2][3]
In May 2009 the station was reopened and renamed as Islamabad Railway Station. Recently on May 15, 2015, a new express train named Green Line has been introduced. The train will daily leave Margalla station (Islamabad) for Karachi at 3 pm and will make stops at Rawalpindi, Lahore, Khanewal, Rohri and Hyderabad on the way. It will have a 30-minute stop at Lahore and will reach Karachi Cantt the next day at 1 pm. The train would leave Karachi Cantt at 10 pm for Islamabad’s Margalla station where it would arrive the next day at 8 pm.
