The Maine Black Bears women’s ice hockey team represents the University of Maine. The team plays their home games in Alfond Arena. The first year of Women’s Ice Hockey was in 1997–98. Up to the end of the 2012-13 season, the program record was 176-268-57 (.408). The Black Bears last Post-Season game was March 1, 2013 (Quarterfinals - 2013 Hockey East Tournament, Result: Boston College 2, Maine 1 (OT).)
Coaches
The current head coach is Dan Lichterman. He led Maine to a record of 5-23-5 in the 2008-09 season. Prior to coaching at the University of Maine, Lichterman was the assistant coach at Minnesota State-Mankato. Prior to joining Minnesota State, Lichterman developed a new five-team girls' hockey organization, the Chicago Chill. A Minnesota native, Lichterman earned two letters in hockey at the University of St. Thomas. [2]
