Maherchi Sadi (Marathi: माहेरची साडी) is a blockbuster Marathi film made in 1991. The film was produced and directed by Vijay Kondke (Nephew of the late Marathi film legend, Dada Kondke). The film made gross income of ₹6 crore (US$890,000) in first three months after its release, making it the highest grossing Marathi film of all time. It was the highest ever collection for any Marathi film at that time. The film retained this record of the highest grossing Marathi film for 17 years before it was bettered by Saade Maade Teen in 2008.[2]
Maherchi Sadi ran for more than two years at iconic Prabhat Talkies.[3] It is a family drama. Its story is based on a hugely successful Rajasthani film Bai Chali Sasariye (1988). Later, it was remade in Hindi as Saajan Ka Ghar in 1994 starring Juhi Chawla and Rishi Kapoor.
