Mahal Gehla (Punjabi: ਮਾਹਲ ਗੇਹਲਾ) is a village in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district of Punjab State, India. It is located 1.4 kilometres (0.87 mi) away from sub post office Mahil Gailan, 15.6 kilometres (9.7 mi) from Nawanshahr, 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) from district headquarter Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar and 107 kilometres (66 mi) from state capital Chandigarh. The village is administrated by Sarpanch an elected representative of the village.[3]

Demography

As of 2011, Mahal Gehla has a total number of 754 houses and population of 3403 of which 1693 include are males while 1710 are females according to the report published by Census India in 2011. The literacy rate of Mahal Gehla is 77.71%, higher than the state average of 75.84%. The population of children under the age of 6 years is 335 which is 9.84% of total population of Mahal Gehla, and child sex ratio is approximately 948 as compared to Punjab state average of 846.[1][4]

Most of the people are from Schedule Caste which constitutes 41.29% of total population in Mahal Gehla. The town does not have any Schedule Tribe population so far.[1]

As per the report published by Census India in 2011, 1093 people were engaged in work activities out of the total population of Mahal Gehla which includes 920 males and 173 females. According to census survey report 2011, 86.73% workers describe their work as main work and 13.27% workers are involved in Marginal activity providing livelihood for less than 6 months.[1][5]

Amardeep Singh Shergill Memorial college Mukandpur and Sikh National College Banga are the nearest colleges.
