Lowrider is an Australian Soul, Indie, Pop band, formed in 2003 when brothers John (keyboard and Rhodes) and Paul Bartlett (drums) joined with bassist Scott Duncan and singer Joseph Braithwaite. Lowrider's distinct sound has been developed organically drawing from diverse influences including Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, The Roots, Mos Def and Erykah Badu. Lowrider released their self-titled debut album Lowrider (Illusive Sounds) in 2006.

History

After putting out their seminal self-titled debut release and moving thousands of units at live shows alone, Lowrider followed up with one of the most lauded Australian releases of 2008, Diamond Amongst the Thieves (Illusive Sounds). On the back of the album's massive buzz, Lowrider hit the road for numerous national sell-out tours over the course of the year. The album's first single Friend received excellent play on Australian radio stations and the second single BeBad built on this success, receiving strong air-play on Australian radio and television.

During 2008-2009, Lowrider toured with Australian Hip Hop act Hilltop Hoods at the Big Day Out Music Festivals and played at Byron Bays East Coast Blues & Roots Music Festival.

Following the success of their second album, Lowrider toured Australia with major international acts, including Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera and Lupe Fiasco, and played major Australian music festivals such as The Big Day Out and Pyramid Rock Festival.

Lowrider released Round the World in July 2010 through Illusive Sounds. Lowrider was nominated for an Australian Music Industry ARIA Music Awards for Best Urban Album for the "Round the World" Album. Lowrider toured with international artists including Lionel Richie & John Legend during 2011.

December 2010 - January 2011 - Big Day performances. Lowrider played at the Big Day Out music festival during the summer of 2010-2011.

In 2012, the band headed to the US for performances in Los Angeles for the Aussie BBq and at Austin's South by Southwest SXSW festival.

February 2013 saw the release of the band's fourth album, titled Black Stones (Illusive Sounds). Recorded throughout 2012 between the famed Red Bull Studios in Los Angeles California, and Chapel Lane Studios in Adelaide South Australia, the album presents a distinct bold and exciting sonic progression for the band. Prior to the official release of Black Stones, Lowrider revealed their first track and single from the album Days of Boredom in December 2012. In the month leading up to the launch of their forthcoming album Lowrider brought out subsequent tracks, "And I Wonder" and their second single "Golden Sun" and third single "In My Arms" radio edit was released in the November 2013.
