The Bideford polacca brigantine slipped her moorings in Penzance harbour during SSW hurricane force winds. Four of her crew and two others drowned.[4] |

The ship parted her cables in the Isles of Scilly and collided with the brig Arthemise ( France). The crew managed to get on board the Arthemise which was then ran ashore.[5] |

While on her second voyage and bound from Liverpool for New Orleans, the 846 ton sailing ship struck rocks 1.5 miles (2.4 km) off Gweal. NNW force 8 to 9 winds drove her on to the northern end of Gweal, in the Isles of Scilly, pushing her bow on to land and forming a temporary bridge to the island. After twelve hours the crew of twenty-four managed to scramble ashore.[6] |
