- Kapitan's - established in 1914, Kapitan's was a well-known restaurant in Johannesburg and was one of the city's oldest restaurants.[5][6][7] In the 1950s, Nelson Mandela frequently lunched here, and brought his future wife, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, here on their first date.[6][7] Madanjit Ranchod worked at the restaurant for 63 years, and the restaurant closed after he died in December 2007.[6]
