- Bobby Doerr, at 98, holds several distinctions; he is the oldest living former major league baseball player, the oldest living member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, the oldest living former major league coach – having coached with the Boston Red Sox (1967–69) and Toronto Blue Jays (1977-81) – and he is the last person alive who played in the major leagues during the 1930s.
- Dave Garcia, at 96, is the oldest living former major league manager; he managed the California Angels (1977–78) and the Cleveland Indians (1979–82).
- Eddie Basinski, at 94, is the last living major leaguer mentioned in the Dave Frishberg song Van Lingle Mungo.
- Red Hoff, a pitcher for the New York Yankees and St. Louis Browns, was the longest-lived major leaguer – he died in 1998, aged 107 years, 132 days.
- Silas Simmons, who played in the Negro leagues, is believed to have been the longest-lived professional baseball player in history – his year of birth is disputed, but he was at least 109 and possibly 111 at the time of his death in 2006.
