List of international cricket centuries by AB de Villiers
Abraham Benjamin de Villiers (more commonly known as AB de Villiers) is a South African cricketer and captain of the South African One Day International (ODI) team.[1] A right-handed batsman–wicket-keeper, he has scored centuries (100 or more runs in a single innings) on 21 occasions in Test and 24 occasions in ODI. He reached the top of the International Cricket Council Test batting rankings in March 2012.[2]
De Villiers made his Test debut in December 2004 against England, scoring 28 and 15.[3] He made his first Test century the following month, scoring 109 in the drawn fifth Test in the same series.[4] De Villiers' first double century came in April 2008 against India when he scored 217 not out in a man-of-the-match performance in Ahmedabad.[5] As of 2015, he has scored 21 Test centuries and holds the record for the second-highest individual score by a South African batsman, with 278 not out against Pakistan,[6] after Hashim Amla's 311 not out in 2012.[7] As of 2015, de Villiers is fourth in the list of Test century-makers for South Africa.[8]
De Villiers' ODI debut was in February 2005 against England, where he scored 20 in a tied match.[9] It was over two years later that he made his first ODI century in another man-of-the-match performance, scoring 146 against the West Indies in Grenada at the 2007 Cricket World Cup.[10] De Villiers' second highest score of 149 runs off 44 balls in the format came against the West Indies in Johannesburg;[1][11] he took only 31 balls to reach his century becoming the fastest batsman to reach the mark.[12][13] In the same match, De Villiers scored the fastest fifty off 16 balls, and hit 16 sixes equaling the Rohit Sharma's record for more sixes in an inning. [14] During his 22nd ODI century, de Villiers became the highest ODI century maker for South Africa, passing 21 of Herschelle Gibbs.
Making his first Twenty20 International appearance in 2006, de Villiers has yet to score a century in the format.[15] As of 2015, his highest score is 79 not out which he made in a 130-run victory over Scotland in the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 tournament.[16][17] As of October 2015, de Villiers is joint eighth (with 44 centuries) alongside fellow team-mate Hashim Amla in the overall list of century-makers in international cricket, all formats of the game combined.[18]
