The Lagos prison break was an attack on the Kirikiri Medium Prison at Apapa in Lagos State, a southwestern Nigeria by some convicted inmates of the prison.[1] The attack was an attempt to break the prison but was unsuccessful.[2] It was reported that one inmate was dead and 6 was injured as a result of the attack[3]
Incident
The incident was reported to have occurred on 10 October 2014 at around 4 pm.[4] The prison break was unsuccessful as a result of a collaborative effort of the Nigerian Navy and the Kirikiri divisional police officers in conjunction with the officers of the Nigerian Prisons Services on duty, who prevented the prison break.[5][6] The incident was linked with a minor riot that occurred within the prison, a riot whose causes was unclear.[7][8]
