Kirkelandet Church (Norwegian: Kirkelandet Kirke) is the main parish church for Kristiansund Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located on the island of Kirkelandet in the town of Kristiansund. The church is part of the Kristiansund parish in the Ytre Nordmøre deanery in the Diocese of Møre. The church is also the seat of the deanery, and Sverre Reinert Jansen is the Dean. The church was built in 1964 by the architect Odd Østbye. The church seats about 900 people.[1]

Building

The church is reckoned as one of the most daring "modern" church buildings in Norway. The architect Odd Østbye has created a building which breaks with all traditional church architecture. The architectonic idea behind the church is "Quartz in roses", meaning that the church is shining as a glowing quartz among the roses.[2]

The church was nominated as the contribution from Møre og Romsdal to the "Building of the Century 1905-2005" (Århundrets byggverk 1905–2005) in Norway.
