Kentucky Route 378 (KY 378) is a 20.618-mile-long (33.181 km) state highway in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The highway travels through mostly rural areas of Breathitt and Magoffin counties.
Route description
Breathitt County
KY 378 begins at an intersection with KY 1812 south of Sewell, within Breathitt County. It travels to the northeast, paralleling Frozen Creek, and curves to the northwest. It curves to the east-northeast and crosses over the creek. It curves to the east and crosses over Lower Negro Branch. It curves to the northeast, temporarily leaving Frozen Creek. The highway crosses over Morgue Fork and curves to the south-southeast, paralleling the fork. It curves to the east-southeast, rejoining Frozen Creek. It travels to the northeast and crosses over Davis Creek before it intersects the southern terminus of KY 394. It curves to the southeast, crossing over Negro Branch and traveling through Taulbee. The highway curves to the east-southeast and then to the north-northeast. After traveling through Rock Lick, the highway curves to the east and crosses over Rock Lick Fork. It curves to the east-northeast and crosses over Joe Ward Fork. It crosses over Taulbee Fork and then travels through Mountain Valley. Shortly afterward, Frozen Creek ends. It winds its way to the east-northeast and intersects KY 1094 on the Magoffin County line.[1]
Breathitt–Magoffin county line
KY 378 and KY 1094 travel to the southeast, along the county line, and re-enter Breathitt County proper. They curve to the northeast and then travel along the county line again for just over 500 feet (150 m). The two highways again re-enter Breathitt County proper and immediately curve to the south-southeast. They curve to the northeast and then to the east-southeast. When they reach the county line for the third time, KY 378 splits off, entering Magoffin County proper.[1][2]
Magoffin County
KY 378 travels to the east-southeast, paralleling the Right Fork Licking River. It crosses over Holbrook and Joseph branches before curving to the east-northeast. It passes Gil Williams and John Back cemeteries and curves to the north-northeast. It passes Holbrook's Cemetery and curves to the east-northeast. It crosses over Back and Johnson branches and then passes Back Cemetery. The highway curves to the north, crosses over Puncheon Creek, and travels through Seitz. It curves to the east and travels through Fritz. It curves to the east-southeast and crosses over the Right Fork Licking River, thereby leaving the river. It intersects the western terminus of KY 3337 (Right Fork–Fritz Road). KY 378 winds its way to the east and meets its eastern terminus, an intersection with KY 30.[2]
