Katwa subdivision is a subdivision of the Bardhaman district in the state of West Bengal, India. It consists of Katwa municipality, Dainhat municipality and five community development blocks: Katwa–I, Katwa–II, Ketugram–I, Ketugram–II and Mongolkote. The five blocks contain 46 gram panchayats and one census town. The subdivision has its headquarters at Katwa.

Area

Apart from the Katwa municipality and Dainhat municipality, the subdivision contains one census town and rural areas of 46 gram panchayats under five community development blocks: Katwa–I, Katwa–II, Ketugram–I, Ketugram–II and Mongolkote.^[1] The only census town under this block is Panuhat.^[2]

Blocks

Katwa–I Block

Rural area under Katwa–I block consists of nine gram panchayats, viz. Alampur, Karajgram, Sargram, Gidhagram, Khajurdihi, Sreekhanda, Goai, Koshigram and Sudpur.^[1] Urban area under this block comprises one census town: Panuhat.^[2] Katwa police station serves this block.^[3] Headquarters of this block is in Panchghara and Khajurdihi.^[4]

Katwa–II block

Rural area under Katwa–II block consists of seven gram panchayats, viz. Agradwip, Jagadanandspur, Palsona, Sreebati, Gazipur, Karui and Singi.^[1] There is no urban area under this block.^[2] Katwa police station serves this block.^[3] Headquarters of this block is in Dainhat.^[4]

Ketugram–I block

Rural area under Ketugram–I block consists of eight gram panchayats, viz. Agardanga, Berugram, Murgram–Gopalpur, Pandugram, Ankhona, Jyandas–Kandara, Palita and Rajur.^[1] There is no urban area under this block.^[2] Ketugram police station serves this block.^[3] Headquarters of this block is in Kandra.^[4]

Ketugram–II block

Rural area under Ketugram–II block consists of seven gram panchayats, viz. Billeswar, Ketugram, Nabagram, Sitahati, Gangatikuri, Maugram and Nirol.^[1] There is no urban area under this block.^[2] Ketugram police station serves this block.^[3] Headquarters of this block is in Gangatikuri.^[4]

Mongolkote block

Rural area under Mongolkote block consists of 15 gram panchayats, viz. Bhalugram, Jhilu–II, Lakhuria, Paligram, Chanak, Kaichar–I, Majigram, Shimulia–I, Gotistha, Kaichar–II, Mongalkot, Shimulia–II, Jhilu–I, Kshirgram and Nigan.^[1] There is no urban area under this block.^[2] Mongolkote police station serves this block.^[3] Headquarters of this block is in Natunhat.^[4]

Legislative segments

As per order of the Delimitation SubhajitCommission in respect of the delimitation of constituencies in West Bengal:^[5]

• The municipal area of Katwa and Dainhat, the Katwa–II block and the gram panchayats of Khajurdihi, Sudpur, Karajgram and Goai under the Katwa–I block will form the area under the Katwa assembly constituency of West Bengal.
• Two gram panchayats under the Katwa–I block — Koshigram and Srikhanda — will be part of the Ketugram assembly constituency, which will also contain the area under the Ketugram–I block and the Ketugram–II block.
• The other three gram panchayats under the Katwa–I block, and the area under the Mongolkote block will together form the area under the Mangalkot assembly constituency.
• The Katwa constituency will be an assembly segment of the Bardhaman Purba (Lok Sabha constituency), which will be reserved for Scheduled castes (SC) candidates.
• The constituencies of Ketugram and Mangalkot will be assembly segments under the Bolpur (Lok Sabha constituency), which will be reserved for SC candidates.
